The Exhibitors FUME as a Prominent Critic and Numerous Influencers Observe Monkey Man on Pirated Copies and Spread the Message: “These Are PARASITES That Need to Be Amputated”: Bollywood News – Bollywood Hungama

Bollywood Hungama has regularly reported on the release schedule of Dev Patel’s acclaimed film Monkey man in India. The release was initially scheduled for April 19 but was postponed due to the delay in approval from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Reports have now been received about this Monkey man was banned in the country. Bollywood Hungama debunked this rumor last week, adding that CBFC members have not seen the film yet.

Monkey man was released in most markets on April 5 and was made available to rent on Amazon Prime Video in international markets earlier this week. As expected, high-quality pirated prints flooded the Internet after being released in rental stores. Warner Bros. and Universal Pictures, the film’s local distributors, reportedly tried their best to remove links. X, formerly Twitter, even sent copyright infringement notices to those who shared the film’s Google Drive link.

But the damage is less. Monkey man is freely available on illegal movie websites and the Telegram app. However, what shocked the industry and cinema owners was the fact that a prominent critic reviewed the film on a popular website. The critic also tweeted that he didn’t see the film in theaters or streaming, but in a “secret third place.” Some websites have compiled tweets from people who have seen the film on pirate websites. Some prominent people on X with large followings have also recommended it Monkey man big time, adding that it has no chance of being released in India and so you’ll have to watch it “you know where”.

A source from the trade fair industry said Bollywood Hungama“It is clear that these people did not fly to Dubai or Bangkok to catch them Monkey man. They saw it illegal. There is a lot of curiosity around the film in India, especially due to reports that it is very controversial. People want to know that’What is that? Movie my?’. It’s forbidden fruit.”

A manager on duty sighed: “People fear it will never be released in India. Therefore, they started watching it on torrent. This seemed like a film that would have drawn audiences to theaters in the otherwise dry month of May. Now we have lost hope. What is sad is my own protocol Openly supporting piracy.”

Another exhibitor also blamed the studio: “Firstly, they announced April 19th as the release date when the film hit theaters worldwide on April 5th. “Moreover, they knew that the film had controversial content.” They should have done the censorship in advance. I’m sure they also knew that in three weeks Monkey man is released on PVOD from where pirated links originate. So it’s a case of poor planning and we will suffer because there is hardly anything exciting to play in the cinemas. I doubt Monkey man will now get the kind of reception it might have had in April.”

When asked whether it was fair for critics and prominent industry figures to watch “Monkey Man” and recommend it to their followers, film exhibitor and distributor Akshaye Rathi didn’t mince his words: “I don’t know whether it’s fair or unfair is. What I do know is that it is a criminal offense under Indian laws. If the film was consumed through a pirated platform, the authorities and law enforcement must take note. Whatever charges and punishments apply to piracy consumption must be brought against them. We operate in an industry where millions of rupees are lost and jobs are lost due to piracy. And when people working in the entertainment or media ecosystem consume and distribute films about piracy, then pardon my language, but these are parasites that need to be amputated.”

Meanwhile, according to sources, Monkey manThe censorship process is still ongoing and hence it is still not clear when the film will release in India. An industry insider was optimistic: “I haven’t seen the film, but from what I’ve heard, Monkey man is intended for the big screen. So it could be that people still come in large numbers to see the film.”
