The EQS 2025 Actually Looks Like a Mercedes Now

  • Mercedes has introduced the EQS 2025, which features a revised design, new equipment and a larger battery.
  • The design changes are minor, but the model looks less anonymous thanks to a revised grille and a new hood ornament.
  • The new 118 kWh battery pack also increases the WLTP range by up to 51 miles (82 km).

Mercedes has unveiled the revised EQS ahead of its debut at Auto China. Even though the model takes some cues from the S-Class, the changes are anything but dramatic.

The flagship electric sedan now comes with a sporty AMG Line front bumper as standard, but most importantly has been equipped with a revised radiator grille that features flush-mounted chrome slats that mimic those of the S-Class. This effort is supported by a new hood ornament, which makes it clear that the EQS is not just any gummy bear, but a Mercedes model.

The updates continue inside, as the 2025 EQS features additional chrome accents as well as upgraded rear seats that feature an additional 0.2-inch (5 mm) layer of foam. In addition to the additional padding, the rear seats now have a backrest that can now be adjusted from 27 to 36 degrees at the push of a button. In addition, the comfort cushions now have contrasting seams and nappa leather piping.

Customers looking for the ultimate in rear-seat comfort should opt for the Pinnacle trim and the optional Executive Interior Package. It features a passenger seat that tilts forward to increase second-row legroom. But that’s not the only party trick, as the rear seatback can be reclined up to 38 degrees, while rear passengers will also find their buttocks, neck and shoulders quickly warmed up. The package also includes pneumatically adjustable rear seats and illuminated trim strips on the back of the front seats.

In terms of performance, the EQS has been equipped with an all-new battery that has a usable capacity of 118 kWh. That’s an increase of 108.4 kWh and the battery is accompanied by new braking software that allows for greater energy recovery.

Thanks to these changes, the EQS 2025 has a greater range. The automaker didn’t release EPA numbers, but said WLTP range increases by up to 51 miles (82 km). In addition, European models with four-wheel drive have an increased towing capacity of 1,700 kg. This is an improvement of more than 100% since they were previously limited to 750 kg (1,653 lbs).

As for the Euro-EQS, it’s mostly similar to the American variant, but Mercedes announced that customers will find a new automatic lane change feature as well as a new special edition. The latter features 21-inch AMG wheels as well as the Executive package, which has a slightly different name in Europe. Further highlights include two-tone nappa leather, a microfiber headliner, rose gold accents and trim elements made of anthracite-colored, open-pore wood.

Coming back to the American model, it will be available from US dealers later this year. There’s no word on pricing, but the current EQS starts at $104,400.
