NEW YORK – The Empire State Building (ESB), in collaboration with WhatsApp, today unveiled a street-to-observatory takeover for fans in New York City, which included an appearance by Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team driver Lewis Hamilton, to WhatsApps To celebrate rapid growth in the United States, a dynamic light show and a roadside demonstration of an F1 car along the iconic Fifth Avenue in New York City. The chance for F1 fans to participate continues this week, with the exclusive opportunity to see the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team’s iconic cars first-hand and enjoy an immersive emoji experience.

“We are excited to harness the authentic, international voice of the Empire State Building and use our observatory to host the highest gathering of Mercedes-AMG F1 fans, while inviting guests to view the team’s cars up close and interactive WhatsApp emoji ads at the world-famous Empire State Building Observatory,” said Jean-Yves Ghazi, President of the Empire State Building Observatory. “It’s great to welcome Lewis Hamilton and Toto Wolff to this WhatsApp partnership, only at the Empire State Building Observatory Experience,” he continued.

ESB in the Grand Prix
On April 29th, ESB debuted a dynamic WhatsApp x Mercedes-AMG F1 race with lights and the brand new emoji racing car. The new Emoji Car raced through Lower Manhattan with other Emoji Cars, highlighting famous New York neighborhoods and Emoji Yorkers decorated around WhatsApp message bubbles. The light display ran on the south facade from 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team driver Lewis Hamilton, along with CEO and team principal Toto Wolff, visited the Empire State Building earlier in the day for a tour. Run through NYC
This morning, seven-time world champion Hamilton thrilled fans by driving 35-35 down Fifth AvenueTh and 33approx Street in a Mercedes-AMG F1 W12 E PERFORMANCE 2021. The Brit drove the W12 to eight Grand Prix victories and secured the constructors’ world championship for the team this year.

The Empire State Building’s iconic Fifth Avenue lobby windows now feature special 2D and 3D emoji designs depicting scenes from a Formula 1 garage full of tools, technology and stickers. The window exhibition will remain on view until May 7th.
