Taye Diggs As a father, he’s reached a crossroads that forces him to hit the gym a little harder.
The 53-year-old actor spoke to ET on Wednesday City Harvest Gala 2024 at Cipriani in New York City, where he gushed about his 14-year-old son, Walker Nathaniel, whom he shares with his ex-wife Idina Menzel. Diggs, who served as emcee at City Harvest’s gala, couldn’t help but sing his son’s praises when asked about how fatherhood is treating him.
“He’s a strong athlete and beat me up a lot,” Diggs joked. “So I have to stay in shape just to keep up with him.”
In more ways than one, it seems. According to his proud father, Walker is a young man with many talents.
“He can act. He can sing. He can dance,” Diggs said. “He’s teaching me how to be a better adult.”
Blessed with so many talents, one wonders what career young Nathaniel could choose: athlete or entertainer?
“Athletes are entertainers, so they’re probably both,” Diggs said.
Diggs and Nathaniel have a special bond. In 2019, the actor opened up about a romance at the time and how nervous he was about introducing it to his then 10-year-old son.
“I started dating someone and it was pretty stressful, but I introduced her to him and they get along really well,” he said at the time. “We just went out and decorated the whole house for Halloween, which was cool.”
Diggs and Menzel met in 1995 during the Broadway production of Rent in which they played the main roles. Shortly after, they sparked a romance and eventually tied the knot in 2003. The couple welcomed Walker in September 2009. Diggs and Menzel Separated in 2013.
