T20 World Cup 2024: “There is No Point in Picking Dinesh Karthik…” – Yuvraj Singh Names India’s Wicketkeeper for the World Cup

Former India batsman and first ICC T20 World Cup winner Yuvraj Singh feels that Dinesh Karthik should not be part of the Indian squad if he is not in the playing XI.

Yuvraj Singh recently took part in an interview with the International Cricket Council (ICC) where he shed light on India’s chances and squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup. The former left-handed batsman also spoke about the one player who will have the onus of scoring a lot of runs for India and also spoke at length about the future of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

What did Yuvraj Singh say about Dinesh Karthik?

Yuvraj Singh was also asked about the wicket-keeper he would like to see in the 2024 T20 World Cup in USA and West Indies. He was asked whether Dinesh Karthik would make the cut or not. At the moment, Karthik is in top form and there are calls to include him in the T20 World Cup squad immediately.

These calls increased after Dinesh Karthik hit 83 off 34 balls Sunrisers Hyderabad recently at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. However, his former India teammate Yuvraj Singh feels that there is no point in including him in the 15-member squad if he cannot play the matches.

Yuvraj Singh claimed that the Indian selection committee should rather include in-form wicketkeepers like Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant. Yuvraj argued that Dinesh Karthik didn’t get many opportunities to play in the last edition in 2022 and that he would like to see him in the squad only if he played for India.

“DK batted well but the thing about DK is that the last time (2022) when they picked him and the T20 World Cup was going on, he couldn’t play. If DK isn’t in your XI, I don’t think that’s the case.” There’s every point in picking him. There’s Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson and both guys are in great form and obviously younger.”

“I would like to see DK in the mix but if he doesn’t play then you would rather have someone younger who can make a difference,” Yuvraj Singh told the ICC.
