Stephen A. Smith Says There Are No Problems Between Him and Pat McAfee [Update]

Update March 9th: Stephen A. Smith says there is no conflict between him and his ESPN counterpart, Pat McAfee.

“There is no argument at all. Pat McAfee is my teammate. Pat McAfee and I work together at ESPN.” Smith said. “There is no banishment First flap or any other show. He is warmly welcome First flap in the future and I am very welcome to be on his show

“I don’t know how many times I have to say this, but I’m going to try again and not just rely on a statement or a quote that I made about ESPN. But I look into the cameras and tell you, nationally and globally: I keep my fingers crossed for my teammates. I cheer on my colleagues. I’m not defending anyone. The people out there doing this are idiots. A rising tide lifts all boats.”


ESPN Talking Heads Pat McAfee And Stephen A Smith He recently had an explosive phone conversation about creative differences that escalated to the point where the former Indianapolis Colts player called the latter a “motherfu*cker,” according to a New York Post exclusive.

The dispute stemmed from a project Smith will do on ESPN in the future, where he will serve as executive producer of the segment through his own production company, the Post reported. After the dispute, Smith banned McAfee from appearing on his show. First flap in the future, the report says.

Previously, McAfee appeared every Tuesday during football season to provide commentary but said he was unaware of a ban, according to the Post. Smith stated that according to history there never was one at all.

Both sides said their conflict had been resolved, the Post reported.

Both McAfee and Smith enjoyed record-high scoring success on their respective shows for ESPN 496,000 viewers for First flap last year and 298 million views on all platforms for The Pat McAfee Show has since been produced through ESPN.

“We are No. 1 and he has absolutely contributed to us staying No. 1. “McAfee was asked to come on every Tuesday during the Super Bowl and he did just that, kicking ass every time he went on the air,” Smith said in an email to the Post. “If McAfee wants to be there First flap He will be there next season First flap. I love winners and McAfee has proven that he wins – which helps ME win. I don’t know how many times I have to tell people that he paved the way to a new era for so many of us. I am grateful to have him as part of my team and the ESPN family. And I look forward to having him around for many years to come.
