Sony Honda’s Afeela EV Isn’t on Sale Yet, but It’s Now Available for Gran Turismo 7

  • The latest prototype of the Afeela electric sedan was unveiled at CES in January.
  • The energy comes from a 91 kWh battery and two electric motors with 483 hp.
  • Skoda also recently unveiled its Vision Gran Turismo concept in the racing simulator.

Sony Honda Mobility’s Afeela sedan won’t go into production until next year, but the compelling electric vehicle has already been added to Gran Turismo 7.

Interestingly, Sony Honda Mobility has not yet presented the Afeela in a production version and has only shown it as a prototype. Therefore, the electric sedan now available in Gran Turismo 7 is the same prototype that was unveiled at CES in January. Although Afeela is not designed for the track, given that Sony is the publisher of the Gran Turismo series, it is no surprise that it has been added to the world’s most famous driving simulator.

Beneath the Afeela’s minimalist exterior lies a pair of electric motors that produce a combined 483 horsepower. These motors draw juice from a 91 kWh battery that supports 150 kW DC fast charging and 11 kW Level 2 charging. Sony Honda hasn’t said whether the production model will feature the same powertrain, but we suspect it will, although it would be nice to see top DC charging speeds increased.

The interior of the Afeela in Gran Turismo 7 is also a perfect replica of the real car. That means it has the same intriguing yoke-style steering wheel and gauges that span the entire width of the dashboard.

The Afeela isn’t the only new car added to Gran Turismo 7, nor is it the most compelling. Skoda unveiled its Vision Gran Turismo concept, inspired by the 1957 1100 OHC Spider, earlier this week. Like other Vision Gran Turismo concepts released over the years, it is far from any production car Skoda will ever build and features a complex active aerodynamics system. It is also equipped with four electric motors and 1,073 hp.
