PlayStation has announced that it is no longer needed after about three days of online clamor and bombshell reviews Helldivers 2 Players on PC can link their Steam account to a PlayStation Network account to continue accessing the popular sci-fi co-op shooter.

This led to an awkward situation on Thursday when Sony announced that all players would need to have a PlayStation account by June 4 to continue playing. In a tweet on May 5 at midnightPlayStation said it heard all the “feedback” about linking a Steam and PSN account and decided… no, whatever.
“Hell diver Fans – we’ve heard your feedback on this Helldivers 2 Account linking update,” PlayStation announced. “The May 6 update that would have required Steam and PlayStation Network accounts to be linked for new players and for current players starting May 30 will not continue.”
PlayStation said it is still “learning what’s best for PC gamers” and said all the feedback the company has received on the situation has been “invaluable.”
“Thank you again for your continued support of Helldivers 2 and we will keep you updated on future plans,” PlayStation’s late night tweet concluded.
The reversal of the account link follows A terrible time for Arrowhead’s developers and community managerswho were forced to wage a massive digital war on Twitter, Reddit and Discord. Arrowhead’s CEO spent most of the weekend apologized on Twitter and spoke to angry fans.
People were upset that the account linking announcement came so long after the game’s release – even though that was technically the plan all along. Some wondered why, after months of being able to play online and use crossplay, they suddenly needed a free PSN account to play Helldivers 2 on Steam. Other players were upset about this Helldivers 2 was sold on Steam in 2011 Countries that do not have access to PlayStation Network. This particular issue has only been partially addressed by Sony FAQ posted online at the weekend. Apparently PlayStation has learned a valuable lesson: don’t assume that every gamer will read the entire Steam store page when purchasing a game, and keep people informed of your plans to one day benefit them from the game they purchased hold off.
