Shekhar Suman, who is currently seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, has received positive feedback for his work on the show. While enjoying the wonderful response to his new work, Shekhar recently took a trip down memory lane and spoke about his experience of working with Madhuri Dixit on her first film.
During an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Shekhar said that he has worked with prominent actresses like Rekha and Padmini Kolhapure and how he picked up Madhuri on a bike when they worked together for the first time.
Shekhar Suman recalls picking up Madhuri Dixit on his bike every day during the shooting of Maanav Hatya: “She was radiant and looked pretty.”
During the interview, Shehkhar Suman described the incident saying, “Utsav had been delayed and between and AnubhavOne day I got a call that a director wanted to sign me for a film with the title Maanav Hatya, where I played a journalist. However, he only offered me 5,000 rupees. I had signed Utsav for Rs 25,000 and received Rs 10,000 as signing amount. When he offered me 5,000 rupees for it, I was a little disappointed. He told me that it was a new heroine named Madhuri Dixit. I agreed to do this film and met Madhuri at her house. She was radiant and pretty looking.”
Shekhar further said that the producer faced severe budget constraints while working on the film, which is why he used to pick up Madhuri on his bike. He continued, “Maanav Hatya was the second film for both of us and the producer said he didn’t have money for the locations and asked me if I could borrow my house for the shoot. Later, the producer ran out of money to pay a taxi to pick up Madhuri, so he asked me if I could pick her up. I would pick her up on my bike. Since there was no budget for makeup either, my wife was asked to do it. Madhuri was such a sweet, naive girl from Maharashtra. Somehow the film got finished.”
Shekhar also mentioned that he and Madhuri were meant to be Anubhav together. However, Padmini Kolhapure took her position. Talking about it, the actor said, “My third film Anubhav Madhuri was also seen in it, but two days later she was replaced by Padmini Kolhapure, who was a much bigger star then. This film was a huge success.”
In Heeramandi, Shekhar Suman plays Zulfiqar Ahmed, a powerful and intellectual man who exudes authority.
