But Tori Spelling’s relationship mistakes are apparently enough to leave her confused and sad.
For years, Shannen has urged Tori to take her relationship advice to heart.
Shannen Doherty offers Tori Spelling some tough love
On the Thursday, April 25 episode of Tori Spelling spelling mistake On the podcast, Shannen Doherty appeared as her guest (this was actually her second guest appearance in a row).
Both women discussed their current status, as both are (fairly) newly single. It’s not easy navigating the dating scene after a long break.
“It’s all so fresh that I’m not sure what I even want,” Tori confirmed. The date of her separation from Dean McDermott is June 17, 2023, her last time dating was in the era of AIM, flip phones and color-coded terror alert levels.
For Tori, fame – with or without financial or professional success – can be “emasculating” for men. Tori seemed to think she should shy away from it, but Shannen disagreed.
“That’s what I want. I want a man who is proud to be with me and doesn’t cheat, doesn’t lie because he’s so afraid of losing me,” Shannen said. “But also a Man who is really proud of my success and what I have achieved.”
Shannen then advised her friend, “And that’s what you’re really looking for now. Not a man to dominate. No man to belittle you. Not a man with red flags.”
Shannen wanted the impossible for Tori
Tori told Shannen that she “disagrees” with Shannen’s relationship goals – because she doesn’t think a man can be confident enough to celebrate her fame without feeling resentful about it. Not even if he were successful alone.
“This is depressing,” Shannen said, aptly obsessed. “Do you really think Keith Urban is worried about Nicole Kidman?”
She then reassured Tori that when it comes to finding a safe partner, “I think it’s possible.”
Tori Spelling had the insight to realize that self-sabotage plays a role when pursuing new romantic relationships.
“I preemptively belittle myself, rush myself, and sabotage myself from building my career,” she admitted.
“Never belittle yourself for anyone,” Shannen Doherty then instructed her.
“I’ve been telling you this for 30 damn years,” Shannen reminded her.
“You really did. “I wasn’t listening,” Tori admitted. Her friend hoped that she would listen to her next words and take them to heart.
“You never really owned your power. And you’ve always been insecure. And you were always a little afraid and always settled for much less than you deserved,” Shannen advised her. “And it’s time to change that, and you’re on the right track. …You have power within you, you just haven’t used it to its fullest yet.”
