Shah Rukh Khan recalls KKR’s difficult time and reveals how he served water and handed towels to cricketers
In a recent interaction with Star Sports, Shah Rukh Khan recalled the difficulties his IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders faced in the early years. Talking about the past few years, SRK noted that they were quite challenging as he acted as the 12th man among his 11 players in the team. He mentioned serving the players water, giving them towels and even learning how to field during the game. In his words:
“The first five to six years were very challenging. I am not a cricketer… But I was the 12th man in KKR. As the 12th man, it’s about going out on the field, serving the water, giving the towel and explaining it’s okay and giving it time. Everything should be allowed to breathe.”

Shah Rukh talks about his favorite place in his team, KKR’s home ground, Eden Gardens
For the uninitiated, SRK’s IPL team is based in Kolkata and its home ground is the legendary Eden Gardens. The team has played numerous games on this field and even won many seasons. Talking about the sanctity of the soil, Shah Rukh revealed that there is a particular place where he feels at home, just like his residence in Mumbai, Mannat. He shared:
“There is no nervousness… There is a left corner in Eden Gardens that is mine. I feel more than just at home here, more like a family.”
SRK said he promised to attend KKR’s games before his next project
In another section of the same interview, Shah Rukh Khan spoke about how he will be attending most of the KKR matches in the current 2024 IPL season. As the world waits for the actor’s return to the big screen, the actor noted how much he is struggling with rest after delivering three consecutive releases. Furthermore, he mentioned that he had promised his team to attend KKR’s matches before starting his next film. He said:
“I told the entire team that we would play important games. Luckily I shoot mostly in August or July… we plan in June to start from June. So I am completely free to come to all the games. I come with luck.”

Shah Rukh burst into tears as KKR lost a game against Rajasthan Royals
On April 17, 2024, Shah Rukh Khan graced Eden Gardens when his team, the Kolkata Knight Riders, played a match against the Rajasthan Royals. Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, the former lost the game at the last minute. However, what caught the attention was the moment SRK got teary-eyed as he witnessed the losing match.
