The eagerly awaited one Don 3 is gearing up for production, with Ranveer Singh taking on the iconic role of the charismatic criminal mastermind. This news, announced by director Farhan Akhtar last year, got fans and the industry talking, sparking both excitement and debate. While details surrounding the film remain top secret, recent reports have shed light on the production schedule and filming locations.
Ranveer Singh-starrer Don 3 targets international locations; filming in London and Germany: report
According to Dainik Bhaskar, the shooting will begin this year and a quick turnaround is targeted within four months. Interestingly, the report suggests a strong international focus as Farhan Akhtar is currently exploring locations in London and Germany. “A few days ago, Farhan Akhtar reached London with the core team to finalize the locations Don 3“, says the report. “In addition to London, the production team will also travel to Germany. It is possible that the filming will also be expanded to other German cities.”
To add to the intrigue, sources close to the production revealed a possible filming window between “after August this year and wrapping up in December.” While the official confirmation from Farhan Akhtar and the team is still awaited, these reports have certainly piqued the interest of fans.
The decision to cast Ranveer Singh as the replacement for Shah Rukh Khan’s portrayal of Don caused a lot of discussion. To announce the new direction of the franchise, Farhan released a captivating teaser in which Ranveer’s voice delivers a powerful dialogue: “Sher jo so raha hain woh jagega kab, puchte hai yeh sab.” Unse keh do phir jaag utha hoon main, aur phir samne jald aane ko… (Everyone asks when the sleeping lion will wake up. Tell them that I have woken up and will be back soon.)” This announcement divided social media, with some fans excited to see Ranveer in the role while others expressed a sense of nostalgia for Shah Rukh Khan’s iconic performance in the last two films.
In an interview with BBC Asian Network last year, Farhan Akhtar had said, “I’m just really excited to get it going.” I mean, Ranveer is great. He is great for the role. Also, as you can imagine, he is very excited and very nervous. You know you have big shoes to fill. But we went through the same emotional process when Shah Rukh Khan did it, and everyone was like, ‘Oh my God, how can you replace Mr. Bachchan?’ Then the whole thing happened. And it’s really about an actor coming in, owning the role and doing it, really giving it his style and his flair, and he’s got that. He has that in abundance. So he will do that. Yes. So he’ll do a great job. I think the onus is now more on me to make sure the film’s script works the way I envisioned it.
He added: “Filming for Don (3) starts in 2025. We start in January 2025. So there is still some time left.” When asked what makes a good Don, he said: “Self-confidence, flamboyance and the belief and the ability to do anything, what you get yourself into.”
