UPDATE: April 30, 2024, 12:30 p.m. EDT We’ve updated this story with the latest information about Prime Day 2024.

Amazon has made the announcement: We’re officially on the verge of Prime Day season again.

If it seems like it hasn’t been all that long since Amazon last hosted a website, that’s because it isn’t: just over a month ago, the retailer held its five-day Big Spring Sale with offers on selected technology and household items and cleaning products as well as other “seasonally relevant items”.

The real big sale for Amazon, however, is Prime Day. The retailer just released new details about the sale, so we’ve rounded up everything you need to know about Prime Day 2024 so far.

What is Prime Day?

Prime Day is a 48-hour sitewide savings event exclusive to paid and trial members of Amazon’s Prime subscription service. It began in 2015 as a one-day sale to celebrate Amazon’s 20th anniversary and has evolved in recent years into a two-day event preceded by numerous early offers. This year marks the 10th time Amazon has held this sale.

Prime Day often offers the lowest prices of the year at the time of sale on a whole range of products, including robot vacuum cleaners, Amazon devices, headphones, Apple products, TVs and more.

Last year, Amazon held another site-wide sale for Prime members in the fall – last year it was called “Prime Big Deal Days” – that was very similar to the summer event. It happened in October, before Black Friday deals started in earnest. Like Prime Day, it is a 48-hour sale for Prime members.

When is Prime Day 2024?

In a press release on April 26, Amazon confirmed that Prime Day will take place in July, as in previous years. Although the exact dates have not been announced, we expect the sale to take place sometime in early to mid-July. In 2023 it ran from July 11th to 12th, in 2022 from July 12th to 13th.

We also keep an eye out for news about Early Access deals: Last year, Amazon launched Early Access deals on June 21st.

Can you shop on Prime Day without being a Prime member?

Not all Prime Day deals are officially tied to sales, but to have access to the biggest savings possible, you’ll want to be a Prime member.

You can participate in Prime Day without committing to a paid Prime membership by scheduling a 30-day free trial around the event. Remember to cancel the contract as soon as the sale is over to avoid costs.

Who competes with Prime Day?

Currently, it’s common practice for other major retailers to hold sales right before, during, and right after Prime Day.

Last year, these included Best Buy’s Black Friday July sale, which ran July 10-12, Walmart+ Week, July 10-13, and Target Circle Week, July 9-July 15. (As a reminder: Last year Prime Day took place from July 11th to 12th.)

Beyond extended sales hours, these retailers can offer better deals on specific categories like QLED TVs, high-end laptops and home appliances.

While we have not yet received confirmation of any competing sales, we will keep an eye on this and update this page accordingly when we do.
