Punjab Kings fast bowling coach Charl Langeveldt has announced that Sikandar Raza has left the PBKS squad to join the Zimbabwe team. Raza will take part in Zimbabwe’s upcoming five-match T20I series against Bangladesh starting May 2. His absence from the Punjab Kings team is a significant development as he shifts his focus to international duties and aims to make an impact for Zimbabwe in the upcoming series against Bangladesh.

Charl Langeveldt’s update on PBKS players:

Sikandar Raza’s departure from the Punjab Kings (PBKS) means he will miss the remaining matches of the IPL season as he returns to lead Zimbabwe in the T20I series against Bangladesh. This series serves as Zimbabwe’s crucial preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Raza’s leadership and experience will be crucial as Zimbabwe look to refine their squad and strategies for the global tournament. His absence from PBKS highlights his commitment to domestic duties and international cricket priorities.

Sam Curran is currently serving as the stand-in captain of the Punjab Kings (PBKS), replacing Shikhar Dhawan who is out due to injury. Charl Langeveldt, the PBKS fast bowling coach, gave an update on Dhawan’s condition, pointing out that the regular captain’s absence was due to an injury-related setback. Under Curran’s leadership, PBKS is going through a series of games with Dhawan’s recovery progress being closely monitored by the team management.

At the pre-match conference, Charl Langeveldt said Sikandar Raza had come to represent his country. We will have an update on Dhawan by tomorrow.

After their impressive win against the Kolkata Knight Riders, the Punjab Kings are now gearing up for their next IPL match against the Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Looking ahead to the upcoming game, the team is drawing confidence and motivation from their recent record win. This morale boost from their previous performance is likely to give the Punjab Kings a boost as they take on the Chennai Super Kings in what promises to be an exciting and competitive game in the IPL.

He said: “In sport you always draw on confidence from the last time.” And our last game was a good one for us. But Chennai is always a difficult wicket so we will be ready for it.”

He further said, “It’s always a tricky wicket. “It looks like we are playing on a fresher wicket with more bounce for the bowlers, especially the seamers. We have done well against them in the last three to four years. But it’s always difficult when you play against Chennai Super Kings at home. They bowl really well here.”

He added: “We don’t think about statistics or records. We treat every game as a new one for us. But it gives confidence that we have a good record against Chennai Super Kings.”

Finally he said, “I won’t reveal much.” But we have plans for each individual. Everyone has strengths and everyone has weaknesses. We had meetings to discuss the same thing for each batsman individually.”

Sikandar Raza’s performance in IPL 2024:

Sikandar Raza played in two matches for the Punjab Kings during the ongoing IPL season and contributed with the bat. He amassed a total of 43 runs but failed to secure a wicket with his bowling. Despite limited opportunities on the field, Raza showcased his batting skills during his time with the Punjab Kings. Now he is moving back to international cricket, joining Zimbabwe’s squad for the upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh to make his mark on his national team.
