Nissan Presents Sedan SUV Concepts with Plug-in Hybrid and Electric Drive

Nissan used the Beijing Motor Show to unveil a range of SUV and sedan concept vehicles, both plug-in hybrid and pure electric.

The Japanese brand plans to launch five “new energy vehicles” – either plug-in hybrids or fully electric vehicles (EVs) – in China with its joint venture partner Dongfeng by 2026, and these concepts could ultimately take the lead take over.

Nissan’s Era Concept may be the closest thing to any current model, as the SUV’s plug-in hybrid powertrain is based on the e-4orce all-wheel drive system that underpins the X-Trail e-Power.

Although Nissan didn’t reveal any further details about what’s under the Era Concept’s skin, the presence of a plug-in hybrid system suggests it would use a larger battery that could be refilled.

According to Nissan, the Era “supports the urban lifestyle and is well suited to young business professionals who treat their car like a second home” as its interior features a “connected entertainment system and zero-gravity seats.”

Closely related to the Era is the Epic Concept, another SUV, albeit with an all-electric powertrain, designed for “adventurous urban couples exploring on the weekend.”

Nissan says it supports autonomous driving on both city streets and highways. However, since it is not a working concept, we cannot see its systems in action.

The Epic Concept also functions as a mobile power source via its Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) system, similar to the existing Nissan Ariya and Leaf electric vehicles.

Nissan’s second all-electric concept is the Epoch sedan, said to be suitable for technology-minded urban and suburban enthusiasts.

The highlight in the interior is an “AI-enhanced Internet of Things” as well as a virtual personal assistant that can recognize the emotions of the occupants.

The second sedan, the Evo concept, is a weekend getaway plug-in hybrid that is oriented toward family life and features advanced driver assistance systems and safety features.

Like the Epoch, it also has an AI-powered virtual personal assistant.

Nissan has not yet confirmed production plans for any of the four concepts.
