Being included in India’s 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup was probably the highlight of Shivam Dube’s year. The CSK batsman really deserved it as he did not fail to show his brilliant performance at the start of the 2024 IPL series.
However, in the next five days, Dube was seen scoring two consecutive Golden Ducks for Chennai Super Kings, which worried the fans. Fans even went to the extent of giving the left-hander a ‘Rinku Singh’ warning.
The BCCI selection curse struck Shivam?
There is an ongoing conspiracy among Indian cricket fans who joke that BCCI, the regulatory and administrative body for cricket in India, has a curse. Fans were not happy after Dube’s recent performance and jokingly threatened him with Rinku Singh’s name. Rinku, who plays for Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL, is a star player who plays in the middle league. However, Rinku was retained as a replacement in the T20WC team alongside Shubman Gill and others.
Here’s what Rohit Sharma said after picking Dube
India captain Rohit Sharma almost dropped a big hint about Dube’s selection in the starting XI for India in the World Cup. Rohit says his selection in the team is based solely on his batting ability, although he also expects the CSK star to bowl for a few overs.
“We needed someone to come in midfield and play that role. We selected Shivam Dube based on his performances in the IPL and some of the games he played before the IPL,” he said in a press conference at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai on Thursday. “I expect that if Shivam plays a few overs, he will do that. The same goes for Hardik, he came and bowled whenever the need arose. All-rounders have to do that no matter what role they play,” Rohit said
