Nissan Magnite Facelift Gets 6 Airbags and Sunroof: Report

Nissan is all set to improve its only offering in the Indian market, the Nissan Magnite. The Magnite competes with other cars in the highly competitive Indian sub-compact SUV segment, which is why Nissan is seriously focusing on this car. The company recently added the AMT gearbox and Kuro edition to the Magnite range. Now the company is planning to give the SUV a major update.

A speculative rendering of the Nissan Magnite facelift

The test model of the facelifted version of the Nissan Magnite was spotted in Chennai last month. Although the test mule was heavily camouflaged, some details could be seen.
According to the reports and spotting, the 2024 Magnite will come with a refreshed exterior design. The SUV will now feature a design similar to Nissan’s global SUV offering. The overall silhouette of the car remains the same and the changes are only made to the soft parts such as lights and bumpers.

Some minor changes can also be expected in the interior. According to Team BHP sources, the Magnite facelift will come with additional features like a single-pane sunroof and 6 airbags along with an updated dashboard design.

No changes to the vehicle’s engine are expected. The current version of the Magnite comes with two engine options: a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine and a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine. The naturally aspirated petrol engine produces 71 hp and 96 Nm of torque. This engine is equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission or one 5 speed AMT which was recently introduced.

The turbo petrol engine, on the other hand, produces 98 hp and 160 Nm of torque. Transmission options for the engine include a 5-speed manual or a CVT. The NA engine achieves an ARAI-rated mileage of 20 km/h, while the turbo engine is less fuel efficient with an ARAI-rated mileage of 17.4 km/h.

The main criticism with Magnite was its performance, and even with the update, Nissan couldn’t fix this problem. If we compare the turbocharged variant of the Magnite with regular variants of other subcompact SUVs, the Magnite will still be underpowered.

The car also has numerous safety features. These include an impressive 4-star GNCAP crash test rating, dual airbags, ABS with EBD and rear parking sensors. Higher variants get additional features such as traction control, hill start assist and electronic stability control.

Nissan Magnite New Edition front

Currently, prices for the SUV start from Rs. 5.99 Lakhs for the base XE variant and go up to Rs. 11.11 Lakhs for the top-of-the-line XV Premium (O) Turbo CVT. This price range makes the Nissan Magnite the cheapest subcompact SUV in the Indian market. It competes with other cars like the Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet.

Magnite was launched back in 2020 and is set to undergo a major facelift. Looking ahead, Nissan has big plans for the Indian market. After the introduction of the Magnite facelift Nissan will launch the badged 5-seater and 7-seater versions of the Nissan Duster.
