General Hospital has another cast change as Nicholas Alexander Chavez He will reportedly not be returning to his role as Spencer Cassadine.
The actor initially left the soap earlier this year to play Lyle Menéndez on the series Ryan Murphyis imminent Monsters: The Story of Lyle and Erik Menendez. His departure was initially described as a leave of absence. It now appears that Chávez has taken a more permanent step.
TV Line reported Chavez’s departure from the show on Thursday, April 25, and noted that ABC declined to comment. Attentive fans noticed in late March that Chavez’s name had been removed from the show’s opening credits. (Its final episode took place on January 31 and ended with a major cliffhanger, with Spencer’s fate unknown to viewers. It is possible that another actor will take over the role, as often happens in soaps.)
Chavez made his General Hospital Debuting as Spencer Cassadine in 2021. The following year, he won a Daytime Emmy in the Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series category for his role.
“This show gave me the opportunity to become my own man,” he said People from General Hospital in July 2023. “It has also given me the gift that few people get in life – the privilege of earning an income every day doing what I love doing.” If I’m not the happiest person in the world “I have to be damn close.”
Chavez’s departure from the soap is the latest in a long series of cast changes that began in November 2023 Roger Howard leaves the show as Dr. Austin Gatlin Holt. The following month, Eden McCoy stepped down from her role as Josslyn Jacks after her mother’s death.
Both Kirsten Storms And Kelly Monaco also took short breaks from the show before 2023 came to a close.
While some stars had left the long-running series, one return shocked fans. After leaving Port Charles – the fictional city of New York – where General Hospital will take place – in 2020, Steve Burton‘s Jason Morgan rejoined the group on the March 4 episode.
“Okay, all right, so here’s the crazy thing: I’m back on set. “We’re getting ready to shoot,” Burton, 53, said in a video shared to the Daily Drama podcast’s YouTube page in February. “So, listen, I need to talk to the main writers. This story is getting sick. It’s going to be incredible.”
He added: “So keep watching because the pieces of the puzzle will fall into place when I return. Stay tuned. Watch out. And when you stop, go back because it’s going to be great.”
