  • Power comes from a 2.4-liter turbo four-cylinder with 271 hp and 258 lb-ft.
  • Mexican buyers can order the WRX Sportswagon with either a six-speed manual transmission or CVT.
  • According to Subaru Mexico, this is the only performance wagon sold in the country.

What’s cooler than a standard Subaru WRX? A Subaru WRX station wagon, and that’s exactly what’s about to hit the market in Mexico. Unfortunately, the car is not sold in the United States.

Estate versions of the WRX have been sold in select markets for many years and often carry the Levorg designation, although in some markets such as Australia it also carries the WRX Sportswagon name. That’s the moniker it will take on in Mexico, and buyers can order it in one of three available trims. Pre-sales began recently ahead of the car’s local launch later this year.

The base model is the WRX High6MT, which starts at MX$819,900, or about $48,500. Subaru is also selling it with a CVT priced at MX$899,900 (~$53,300), while the flagship WRX tS CVT Sportswagon will set buyers back MX$919,000 (~$54,400).

Like the standard WRX sedan, the Sportswagon is based on the Subaru Global Platform. Power is provided by a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, which in Mexican version produces 271 hp and 258 lb-ft (363 Nm) of torque. While we’ve always questioned Subaru’s decision to offer the WRX with a CVT, we applaud the company for still selling it with its symmetrical all-wheel drive system rather than opting for a cheaper front-wheel drive like its similarly priced competitors . This AWD setup includes a center locking differential, but only when ordered with the six-speed.

Subaru Mexico says the WRX Sportswagon will be the only high-performance wagon sold in the country when it launches.

Although it’s a shame that American buyers can’t buy the Sportswagon, the standard sedan variant is still very attractive. Pricing for the 2024 model starts at $33,855 with a six-speed transmission and tops out at $44,215 for the WRX GT variant, which is sold exclusively with the CVT or, as the automaker calls it, the “Subaru Performance Transmission.”
