Melissa McCarthy He doesn’t mind being asked about using Ozempic – especially if it is Barbra Streisand.
McCarthy, 53, posted a video on Instagram on Tuesday, April 30, of herself reading a copy of Barbra: Celebrating an Icon.
“The bottom line: Barbra Streisand knows I exist. “She reached out to me and thought I looked good!” McCarthy said in the clip. “I win the day.”
The actress added a cheerful caption to the social media upload, writing: “For @barbrastreisand fan club members only!!!” ❤️❤️❤️❤️.”
McCarthy made several attempts to clarify that she was not offended after Streisand, 82, made a surprising comment about McCarthy’s appearance in a recent photo from the Center Theater Group gala.
“Pastels just in honor of the incredible @matthewbourne13 at the @ctgla gala last night with this guy @adamshankman!!!” McCarthy wrote via Instagram on Monday, April 29, “This is fulfilling my dream of dancing on stage, much closer 💃🏻💚.”
Streisand responded, “Give him my regards, have you taken Ozempic?” but she later deleted the comment, leading some followers to assume she didn’t mean to make it public.
Ozempic and similar off-brand versions of semaglutide have sparked controversy as Hollywood stars discussed their experiences with the diabetes weight-loss drug. The FDA-approved injections are intended to help type 2 diabetes patients manage weight.
Streisand has since given more context to her comment after receiving backlash. “OMG – I went on Instagram to see the photos we posted of the beautiful flowers I got for my birthday!” Streisand wrote via Instagram Story on Tuesday. “Inside it was a photo of my friend Melissa McCarthy, who I sang with on my Encore album. She looked amazing! I just wanted to compliment her. I forgot that the world reads.”
McCarthy, meanwhile, praised Streisand after being asked if she thought the comment was “out of place.”
“Oh, please,” McCarthy remarked. “I think Barbra is a sweetheart and I love her.”
The duo’s paths crossed back in 2016 during a duet of “Anything You Can Do” as part of Streisand’s album Encore: film partners sing Broadway.
