M. Night Shyamalan Just Revealed the Twist to His New Film Trap

Usually you have to wait until the last minutes of an M. Night Shyamalan film to find out the twist. For his new film, however The filmmaker reveals the twist in the trailer, and it’s incredibly fascinating.

The man behind it The sixth Sense And Unbreakable was at CinemaCon 2024 this week to get the first look CatchHis brand new film hits theaters on August 9th. All we knew so far was that the film stars Josh Hartnett, and there was a rumor that it took place at a concert. But that’s it.

Shyamalan took the stage at CinemaCon and unveiled the first trailer for the film, the idea for which he came up with with his daughter Saleka. In the trailer we see a father (Hartnett) taking his young daughter to a concert. You get in, take a seat, the concert begins and everything goes great. Dad tells his daughter to stay on the seat because he’s going to the toilet. On the way to the toilet, Dad notices some strange things going on. There is a lot of police on duty at this concert. Cameras are being set up. There’s something very strange about all of this. He goes to a stall and asks one of the workers what’s going on.

The worker tells Dad not to reveal anything, but he will. Apparently a serial killer named “The Butcher” is on the loose and the police have received a tip that he will be at this concert. In fact, everything about the concert – including what actually happens – is just a trap to catch The Butcher. They’ve closed all the exits, no one can get out, they’ll get him.

Dad looks surprised at this revelation. Why? Because when he goes into the bathroom and opens his cell phone, a live stream of a bound and gagged man is revealed to him. It turns out that Dad, aka Josh Hartnett, is the butcher. And now he has to figure out how to get out of this trap that also involves his daughter.

M. Night Shyamalan knows this will be revealed in the trailer for Catch means it’s not exactly a big spoiler. We’re guessing the reveal might come at the end of the first act and there’s a lot more film to see. But either way, it’s a very solid Shyamalan variant. The main character is the murderer that the film is trying to catch. Do we cheer for him? Do we hate him? It is unclear.

What’s clear is that Shyamalan has another very unique thriller on his hands, and we’ll see him play on August 9th.
