The 43-year-old mogul added a cozy touch her red carpet look on MondayShe covered her shoulders with a soft gray sweater. The cozy accessory was worn over a silver dress that featured a strikingly fitted corset and an intricately detailed metallic foliage skirt.
In a video diary for FashionKardashian explains the significance of the entire Maison Margiela Artisanal by John Galliano ensemble.
Kardashian said that when they worked with Galliano, they envisioned “spending the best night of your life with the most magical person.”
After spending a night in a garden with her lover, Kardashian explains, she might oversleep and need to hurry up in the morning.
“As I’m running out, my dress falls down because it was one of those nights, and I just grab my friend’s sweater to start running and get to where I need to be,” she imagines. “It’s basically like the real me when I go to an event and have to get home at 6 a.m. to carpool. Real life just happens and sometimes I’m just made up from the night before and it is what it is.
Kardashian says the collaboration lasted several years.
“To say the least, that’s about four or five years of stalking [Galliano] “To see if he would ever design a look for me for the Met,” she admits. “It finally connected me.”
She also reveals that the look included a “custom Margiela thong” to cover her under the peekaboo skirt as she posed at the top of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s famous stairs.
Kardashian recalls attending 11 Met Galas so far and admits she was “lucky to be invited,” which is a plus for her first appearance at the high-fashion event.
Today, she says she still has every Met Gala dress she’s ever worn in her closet, all the way back to 2023 controversial Marilyn Monroe dress.
“I actually asked North, ‘What’s your favorite dress in my closet? If you could take a dress,'” she said of her 10-year-old daughter, and North replied, “‘I want the Marilyn dress.'”
Kim said she replied, “Of course you do.”
On Tuesday, Maison also released a behind-the-scenes video highlighting the incredible amount of work and craftsmanship it took to bring Kardashian’s dress to life.
This year’s Met Gala theme – “Sleeping Beauty: Fashion Awakens” – is a nod to fashion history. Curated and organized by the Costume Institute, the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s exhibition theme features 250 objects from its permanent collection, presented in new, innovative ways.
The dress code was “The Garden of Time,” inspired by JG Ballard’s 1962 short story of the same name.
“I always dreamed of this night,” Kardashian once said Fashion in 2019. “I was sitting at home in bed at the computer and looking at everyone’s pictures. One day I dreamed that I would ever be able to attend a Met Ball, and I never really believed it would ever happen.”
