  • The Kia EV9 GT will be the performance flagship of the range with “tremendous power” from two electric motors.
  • The large SUV accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 4 seconds and features a “reinforced suspension and electronic braking system.”
  • The EV9 GT’s debut has been officially confirmed for January 2025, followed by an updated EV6 GT in the fourth quarter of 2025.

The performance flagship Kia EV9 GT has been officially confirmed to debut in January 2025. Kia said the new version of its largest SUV will have “tremendous performance” from a dual electric motor setup, promising 0-100 km/h (0.5-62 mph) acceleration in 4 seconds.

The news was announced during Kia’s 2024 CEO Investor Day, held in Seoul on April 5. However, the 1.5 hour video presentation has only now been uploaded to YouTube so we were able to take screenshots of the EV9 GT slides.

Ho Sung Song, president and CEO of Kia, confirmed a launch of the EV9 GT in “early 2025” a year ago while speaking to the media during the 2023 New York International Motor Show. This time, however, we gave a firm date for next January and shared a few more details about the model.

The Kia EV9 GT is expected to be equipped with two electric motors that enable all-wheel drive. The “tremendous power output” mentioned in the bullet points makes us wonder whether the EV9 GT will surpass the figures of the smaller EV6 GT with 576 hp (429 kW) and 545 lb-ft (738 Nm). In any case, the EV9 needs a lot of power to get its mass to accelerate like a real sports car. With 0-62 acceleration in 4 seconds, the upcoming EV9 GT will be 1.3 seconds faster than the EV9 GT-Line and just 0.5 seconds slower than the EV6 GT.

Like other GT models, the upcoming performance flagship of the EV9 range will also feature a “strengthened suspension and electronic braking system” to ensure “stable driving performance at high speeds”. The new suspension setup is likely to be paired with a new set of alloy wheels with sticky rubber. Additionally, it’s safe to assume that the EV9 GT will look a little more aggressive than the existing GT-Line trim.

Our spy photographers have already spotted camouflaged prototypes of the Kia EV9 GT being refined at the Nürburgring and during winter testing in Sweden. Unfortunately, these revealed no details about the redesigned design and were equipped with temporary five-spoke alloy wheels. Until the EV9 GT shows more skin, you can check out our speculative rendering below.

Kia has promised to launch GT versions of its entire electric vehicle range, designed to deliver fun driving and effortless handling.

In addition to the EV9 GT, the company confirmed that an updated version of the EV6 GT will launch in the fourth quarter of 2024, following the debut of the facelifted EV6 crossover in the second quarter. Other key launches this year include the EV3 subcompact SUV, scheduled for the third quarter, and the redesigned Sportage, scheduled to launch in the fourth quarter.
