Janet Jackson and Drew Barrymore Reveal Roles in Movies They Missed

Janet Jackson looks back on her film career and admits she wishes she hadn’t given up on a role.

On Thursday’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Showwith whom the GRAMMY-winning singer sat down Drew Barrymore and Ross Mathews – after a surprise appearance.

After the shock wore off, the “Rhythm Nation” singer sat down with the hosts and revealed that she almost played an iconic superhero.

When pictured of Jackson in an all-leather look from the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards (including a cleavage-baring trench coat), Mathews asked if she would be there The Matrix.

“No,” Jackson replied, adding that she didn’t remember the film but knew the actress who got the role after she turned it down.

“It was, this is terrible,” Jackson said. “I don’t remember the movie, but Halle Berry played Storm.”

X MenBarrymore exclaimed.

“I couldn’t because I just started the Janet tour,” Jackson added. “But I think that’s what you’re confusing it with. It wasn’t that The Matrix.”

Berry played the legendary superhero in the film adaptations of the comic. X Men, X2, X-Men: The Last Stand And X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Throughout her career, Jackson famously starred in the sitcom Good times, and such Films as Poetic justice, The Mad Professor: The Klumpsand Tyler Perrys Why did I get married and why did I TOO get married?

Barrymore, another child star, shared that she didn’t accept a big role because she later starred in another film – that was a different direction.

“It’s so hard when you think about making a movie and you don’t end up making it,” Barrymore said. “I’ve had so many of these experiences. I never said that out loud, Boogie nights. There was a moment we talked about Boogie nights and I think that’s when I went and did it Forever [A Cinderella Story] and I went in a completely different direction.

Boogie nights Mark Wahlberg played the adult film star Dirk Diggler in the lead role. The film also starred Julianne Moore, Burt Reynolds and Heather Graham. Barrymore did not share what role she was considering.

Even though it’s been over a decade since Jackson appeared on the big screen, she doesn’t mind coming back.

When asked if she would return to film, Jackson replied: “I definitely would.”

Meanwhile, Jackson, 57, will begin touring in June. Last year, ET spoke with Jackson as she celebrated her 50th anniversary in the music industry.

“I started young, but it means a lot to me that God still allows me to do what I do,” she said. “I am so grateful. And that people are still interested in coming and seeing what I do, what we do. I am very, very happy and very grateful.”
