IPL 2024: Herschelle Gibbs Mocks Travis Head After SRH Batter Fails Against RCB

During the 41st game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) won the toss and the set Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) a target of 206 runs. RCB reached this total through an impressive innings of Virat Kohli (51 of 43), Rajat Patidar (50 out of 20) and Cameron Green (37 out of 20).

SRH, known for their strong batting line-up in previous IPL matches, were expected to reach the target with confidence. However, their power hitters failed against RCB’s bowling attack. Even Travis Headthe Australian batsman, who was in outstanding form, only managed to score one run before being dismissed Will Jacks. As a result, SRH suffered a 35-run defeat.

Former South African cricketer Herschelle Gibbs commented on the team’s disappointing loss, particularly highlighting Head’s poor performance in the game.

Herschelle Gibbs is annoyed by Travis Head’s performance

SRH’s defeat against RCB was their first defeat in the last five games. In their last game against DC, SRH scored 266 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. After the match, SRH openers Head and Abhishek Sharma humorously remarked that they hoped to see a ‘3’ at the top of the score next time, expressing their desire to aim for a total of 300 runs. However, their appreciation turned into a mockery when SRH failed to chase down 207 runs.

This caused Gibbs to take a swipe at Head. The 50-year-old took to X and expressed that chasing 207 runs on a slow track would have been just as impressive as scoring 300 runs in the first innings.

“I know Travis Head said he wanted 300, but chasing 207 on a slower wicket would have been just as clever.” Gibbs wrote about X.

RCB is keeping its playoff hopes alive

Despite the challenges throughout the IPL season, RCB remains active in the fight for a place in the playoffs. Buoyed by their recent triumph over SRH at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, the team led by Faf you Plessis is confident of finishing in the top four. However, Bengaluru’s path to the playoffs will not be easy as their qualification prospects depend on winning all remaining games and other teams’ results.
