If You Live in a Hot Place, Your Genesis’ Fuel Pump Could Fail

  • Genesis is recalling 31,440 GV70, GV80, G80 and G90 models from the 2022-2023 model years.
  • In these vehicles, the high heat could cause the low pressure fuel pump impeller to swell, which could cause the affected vehicles to stall.
  • Genesis will reach out to owners on June 18th to replace their fuel pump assembly with a fully functional part.

Genesis is issuing a second recall related to the impellers of its fuel pumps, this time in the G80, G90, GV70 and GV80 models. The low pressure fuel pumps in 31,440 2022-2023 model year vehicles may be susceptible to failure in hot weather areas.

The Korean luxury automaker initially attempted to resolve this issue by recalling 19,272 GV70, GV80 and G80 in September 2023. At the time, he noted that the impellers in certain fuel pumps could swell, causing a drop in fuel pressure and also causing the engines in the affected vehicles to stall.

The company’s investigation attributed the defect to the material used to make the wheels not meeting specifications. Genesis then recalled the vehicles believed to have defective fuel pumps.

However, as the automaker tracked the problem, it discovered that fuel pump failures were also occurring in vehicles that were not included in the original recall. This meant that new vehicles had to be recalled, including certain G90s from the 2022-2023 model years.

Due to this defect, the GV70, GV80, G80 and G90 models affected by this recall are at risk of losing traction, which may cause them to stall on the road and increase the risk of an accident.

Although Genesis is aware of 463 incidents related to this issue, Genesis is not aware of any accidents, injuries, deaths, or fires resulting from the bug in the United States. The company now plans to contact the owners of affected vehicles on June 18 to prevent fuel pump failures.

Owners are asked to return their vehicle to a nearby Genesis dealer where the low pressure fuel pump assembly will be inspected and replaced. The new part will include wheels manufactured to the correct material specifications.
