Google Pixel Users Complain About Dropped Calls in Latest Updates

The latest April Pixel update has been available for a cool 8 days now and we thought we’d check in with everyone to see how you’re getting on. Part of us is curious to make sure nothing bad has happened since you received the update, but we’ve also heard from some who haven’t seen the update yet, and there are several threads pointing to issues that still exist after the big March update.

To recap, the April update rolled out as build AP1A.240405.002 starting April 2nd for almost all Pixel devices from the Pixel 5a to the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. The Pixel Fold was the only device with a different build of AP1A.240405.002.A1. Google released these builds without notes, meaning no vendor was specified, and we assumed it was a global build for everyone. We know for sure that Verizon’s lineup has received this build.

However, if you look back at our April update post and dive into the comments, some AT&T users indicated that they still haven’t received the update. A friend of ours says his Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel 8 Pro, one without a SIM card and the other with AT&T, also didn’t receive the update. Our Pixel phones are all running beta or preview builds, so unfortunately I can’t review ours.

As far as issues go, the April Pixel Update should have been a smaller update with a few bug fixes. However, since the March update was a quarterly update and feature drop, it seems that it introduced some new bugs users claim that they have not been fixed with the April update either.

This growing Reddit thread is about calls and text messages failing on Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro devices since the March update, and the April update didn’t fix the issue. Responses to this point out the issues with getting the Pixel 7 range, and we’ve seen both AT&T and Verizon mentioned. There’s also a huge Google support thread from March that receives new complaints about dropped calls every hour, and as far as we know, Google hasn’t really responded to it.

There are also complaints about performance degradation, broken UI elements, keyboard freezing, etc. Honestly, the more you look into the March/April updates, the more it looks like we’ll have to fast forward to June, where The next quarterly update will be released and hopefully the problems will be taken care of. These are serious problems.

Let us know – how did the April (and March) update affect your Pixel phone?
