Gerry Turner And Theresa Nist have explained why they decided to end their marriage just three months after her death Golden wedding.
“Theresa and I have had a number of heart-to-heart conversations,” Gerry, 72, said during the Friday, April 12, show Good morning America. “We took a close look at our living situation and collectively came to the conclusion that it was time for us to dissolve our marriage.”
Theresa, 70, and Gerry confirmed they are planning a divorce.
“What strikes me most in our conversations is how committed we both are to our families,” Gerry added. “When we look at these situations, we just think that it is best for the happiness of each of us to live separately.”
He continued: “I still love this person, there’s no doubt in my mind. I cheer for her every day.”
Theresa and Gerry, who both have adult children and grandchildren from their previous marriages, tied the knot in a televised ceremony in January before making plans to move in together in either New Jersey or South Carolina. After searching for an apartment in both states, they were unable to agree on an apartment.

Disney/John Fleenor“We looked at houses in South Carolina, we thought about New Jersey, and we just looked at one house after another, but we never got to the point where we made that decision,” she continued GMA.
The two were also grateful for the outpouring of support they received from Bachelor Nation.
“We received so much love and support from so many people who saw this Golden Bachelor, and I don’t think we can tell you how many people have told us that it has given them so much hope,” Theresa added. “We don’t want that to change for anyone.”

Theresa and Gerry sparked speculation of a split earlier this month after TMZ reported that they were living apart. A source later reported Us weekly that Theresa has no plans to move from New Jersey, where she has her job as a chief compliance officer, and explained that the two visit each other frequently. Most recently, Gerry and Theresa traveled to California earlier this month to film an episode of Celebrity Family Feud and attended a Hulu on Disney+ launch party.

“We don’t have to give the memories back,” Gerry joked, noting that he will continue to pursue love in the future. “And I still love it [Theresa].”
Theresa echoed Gerry’s sentiments as he kissed her hand and confirmed they were still “best friends.”
The now-exes met during the first Bachelor Nation spinoff for older contestants, which aired in September 2023.
