Geely Galaxy E8 EV – 272 HP RWD and 646 HP Dual Motor, up to 665 Km Range; Five Variants in China – Paultan.org

After its launch in January this year, we can now bring live images of the Geely Galaxy E8 from China as the 2024 Beijing Auto Show takes place this week.

The Galaxy E8 is a derivative of the Galaxy Light concept car presented in February 2023 and is based on the Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA), which also underlies models from Zeekr, smart, Volvo, Lotus and other models from the Geely Group.

The Geely Galaxy E8 is 5,010 mm long, 1,920 mm wide and 1,465 mm high with a wheelbase of 2,925 mm. The measured ground clearance is between 136 mm and 143 mm. As for luggage capacity, the rear trunk can hold 465 liters while the front trunk can hold 53 liters.

The range of variants of the Galaxy E8 starts with the Pro and the Max, both of which are equipped with a 62 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, which enables a range of up to 550 km according to the Chinese CLTC test standard. For a longer range, the Long Range and Smart Driving variants feature a larger capacity 76 kWh LFP battery, enabling a range of 665 km (CLTC).

These four variants work with a 400-volt electrical architecture, and the powertrain range starts with a single rear motor with 272 hp and 343 Nm of torque, enabling the Galaxy E8 to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.95 seconds and reach a top speed of 190 km/h.

DC charging can reach up to 150 kW, meaning the battery can be charged from 10 to 80% in 28 minutes for these four variants. All variants, including the top performance variant, feature silicon carbide technology in their drive systems and all versions of the Galaxy E8 come with a Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) system as standard.

Completing this range is a performance variant that differs from the others as it uses an 800 volt electrical architecture that allows DC charging of up to 360 kW, achieving a state of charge of 10-80% in just a few minutes can be 18 minutes.

The Performance variant has a slightly lower capacity battery of 75.6 kWh, reducing the range slightly to 620 km, and its powertrain is a dual motor setup, consisting of a 224 hp front motor and a 421 hp -Rear engine, for a total output of 646 HP and 710 Nm. In this configuration, the Galaxy E8 sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.49 seconds and reaches a top speed of 210 km/h.

Inside the Galaxy E8, a 45-inch 8K resolution display stands out on the dashboard, stretching almost the entire width of the dashboard. This single unit serves three segments – an instrument display for the driver, an infotainment area and another for the passenger.

There’s also a 25.6-inch AR-enabled head-up display in the cabin, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip and running Geely’s Galaxy N-OS software.

Other features include a 256-color ambient lighting system, a cooled 50W wireless charging pad, a Harman Infinity system with eight or 12 speakers, and power front seats with available heating, ventilation and massage functions.

For safety and driver assistance systems, the Galaxy E8 has five millimeter wave sensors, 12 ultrasonic sensors, 10 cameras and a LiDAR sensor.

The driver assistance functions here include AEB, adaptive cruise control with intelligent cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keeping assistant, lane change assistant, blind spot monitoring, front and rear cross traffic warning, automated parking and semi-autonomous driving Navigate on Autopilot 2.0.

In China, the Geely Galaxy E8 was priced at 175,800 yuan to 228,800 yuan (RM114,225 and RM148,661) upon launch, and the E8 is the third model in the Galaxy series, a brand that was launched last year.
