Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s (SLB) first Netflix series, Constitution: The Diamond Bazaar, will be released on the streaming platform on May 1, 2024. The series would explore the lives of courtesans in pre-independent India in the red-light district of Heera Mandi in Lahore. Aside from the characters’ larger-than-life decor and opulent outfits, The Constitution also features a stellar cast of popular Bollywood stars like Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Shaikh, Sharmin Segal, Fardeen Khan, Taha Shah Badussha, Shekhar Suman and Adhyayan Suman.

Fardeen Khan shares that he approached SLB for an assignment in the 2000s

Recently a part of The Constitution The cast including Sonakshi, Taha, Aditi and Fardeen sat for an interview with Pinkvilla. During the conversation, Fardeen, who is making a comeback on celluloid after 14 years, spoke about working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The actor revealed that he had approached the filmmaker in the 2000s but SLB turned him down saying he didn’t have the fire in him. Speaking more about the incident, Fardeen said:

“I went to his office looking for work in the early 2000s. Obviously to get the opportunity to work with him. He met me and we sat and chatted for about 10-15 minutes. He said, ‘You know, Fardeen, I don’t think we can work because I don’t see the fire in your eyes.'”

Fardeen Khan adds that he found SLB’s words brutal at the time

Fardeen continued his chain of thoughts and said that those words earlier felt very brutal. However, he has now realized that it was exactly what he needed to hear back then. The actor further mentioned that this time he even thanked SLB for it and added that he is grateful to have got the opportunity to work with someone like SLB. In his words:

“It felt brutal at the time, of course, and I told him this time that even though it sounded brutal at the time, that was exactly what I wanted to hear, that I needed to hear it.” I thanked him for that. But just for the opportunity to work with a master like him, I am extremely grateful. It was a wonderful learning experience. It enriched me on many levels.”

Fardeen Khan says he didn’t know SLB wanted to sign him Black

During the same interview, the host shared with Fardeen that SLB once wanted to feature him in his 2005 masterpiece. Black. However, the actor had no idea about it and was pleasantly surprised when he found out about it. As Fardeen continued the conversation, he said that this was new to him and was the first time he had heard of it.

Fardeen Khan reveals that he wants to release two more projects in 2024

In an interview with ANI, Fardeen previously revealed that he feels like a newbie as he is ready to make a comeback after 14 years with Heeramandi. Talking about the generational shift in audiences, the actor shared that he will be releasing two more projects this year. In his words:

“Today there is a whole new generation, so I feel like a newcomer. I feel lucky that I got a chance to work with good people on this Heeramandi show. I have two more projects releasing this year. I’m really grateful to the audience for trusting me.”
