Fabrizio Romano Talks About Premier League Trio’s Interest in Real Madrid Star

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has given his verdict on Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United’s reported interest in Real Madrid left-back Ferland Mendy. According to the journalist, Los Blancos still have to decide what they want to do with their starting defender, but will not start the 2024/25 season with three left-backs.

Real Madrid are interested in signing Alphonso Davies from FC Bayern Munich

The well-heeled left-back Alphonso Davies from FC Bayern Munich could move to Real Madrid in the summer transfer window. The Canadian high flyer is reportedly not on good terms with the current Bayern Munich board and is hesitant to sign a contract extension.

Davies is reportedly keen on a move to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium and Los Merengues are also keen to make it happen. However, they will only move for him this summer if Bayern set an acceptable price for the defender. Otherwise, they will come back for him in June 2025 when he becomes a free agent.

Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United want to capitalize on the uncertainty over Mendy’s future

Should Davies move to the Bernabeu, Real Madrid’s two left-backs, Mendy and Fran Garcia, will come under a lot of pressure. Mendy might even prefer a move away from the club as he is unlikely to want to play second fiddle to the Canada international. According to French newspaper L’Equipe, Premier League trio Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United are keeping an eye on Mendy’s situation and could pounce if an opportunity arises.

In his Daily Briefing column for CaughtOffside, Romano spoke about Davies’ potential move to Real Madrid and discussed Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United’s interest in Mendy.

He revealed:

A story I’ve talked about here often is that of Alphonso Davies. Although there is no significant news regarding his future yet, there have been stories about Ferland Mendy potentially leaving Real Madrid and I thought I should clarify them.

L’Equipe have linked Mendy with the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal, but I understand his future is still up in the air – he could be sold or even sign a contract extension.”

Romano concluded:

However, Real Madrid cannot start the new season with Mendy, Fran Garcia and Davies. If they sign Davies it will obviously be because a left-back needs to go. Let’s see if it’s Mendy or not. Real Madrid would only sign Davies now if they sold a left-back.”

The 28-year-old Mendy has played 165 games for the club since joining from Olympique Lyon in the summer of 2019. The France international has scored six goals and provided ten assists in all competitions.
