All-rounder Deepti Sharma has moved to second place in the ICC Women’s T20I Bowling Rankings, equaling her career best. Seam bowler Renuka Thakur also made strides towards her career best in the first game of her five T20I series. Sharma’s economical bowling took her up the rankings and closer to England spinner Sophie Ecclestone, the current league leader. Thakur’s exceptional performance of taking three wickets for 18 runs has propelled her to fourth place, just one place behind the third-placed player.
Apart from Sharma and Thakur, the performances of other Indian players have also influenced the rankings. Left-arm spinner Radha Yadav climbed from 51st to 46th, while Pooja Vastrakar rose from 41st to 38th in the bowling rankings. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur moved up two places to 17th and wicketkeeper-batsman Richa Ghosh moved up five places to 25th in the batting rankings, marking notable progress for the Indian team.
India’s dominance in the T20I series:
The Indian women’s team and the Bangladesh women’s team will face each other in a five-match T20 series. In the first game, India batted first and scored a total of 145/7. After Smriti Mandhana got away after scoring 9 runs, Shafali Verma and Yastika Bhatia led the innings, Verma scoring 31 runs and Yastika 36 runs in 29 balls. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur scored 30 runs in 22 balls. Bowling in the second innings saw the bowlers dominate again. Renuka Singh took 3 wickets for 18 runs and Pooja Vastrakar took 2 wickets for 25 runs. They won the match by 44 runs.
The dominance continued in the second T20 match. In this game, Bangladesh batted first and the Indian bowlers were at their best. Radha Yadav took three wickets for 19 runs at an economy rate of 4.75. Deepti Sharma and Shreyanka Patil took 2 wickets each. Pooja Vastrakar got 1 wicket. While batting in the second innings, Shafali Verma was dismissed early but Smriti Mandhana and Dayalan Hemalatha gave the game a boost. But at that point, rain interrupted the game. Using the DLS method, India won the game by 19 runs. With these two wins, they took the series lead 2-0. In the next few games they will maintain this form and dominate the entire series.
