Daniel Radcliffe is a supporter of the LGBTQ+ community and is disappointed by JK Rowling’s anti-trans comments over the years.
In a new interview, Radcliffe shared what he thinks about Rowling’s repeated attacks on the trans community.
“At the end of the day, it really makes me sad,” he said The Atlanticand added: “Because I look at the person I met, the times we met, the books she wrote and the world she created, and all of that touches “I feel deeply.”
In 2020, Rowling shared anti-transgender statements and Radcliffe was one of the first Harry Potter urged the cast to raise their voices in defense of the trans community. Radcliffe wrote an essay for the Trevor Project that said, “Transgender women are women.”
“I’ve worked with the Trevor Project for 12 years and it would have seemed, I don’t know, a huge cowardice not to say anything,” Radcliffe told the publication about the reason he wrote the essay. “I wanted to try to help people who were negatively affected by the comments. And if those are Jo’s views, then they are not the views of everyone associated with the Potter series.”
Earlier this month, Rowling responded to a comment on social media that said they were waiting for Radcliffe and Harry Potter Co-star Emma Watson should publicly apologize to the author. The social media post came after the British government released a report that vindicated Rowling in her anti-trans rhetoric.
Rowling wrote: “Celebrities who have joined a movement aimed at undermining women’s hard-won rights and who have used their platforms to cheer the transition of minors can make their apologies for traumatized defectors and vulnerable ones.” Women who rely on single-sex spaces save.”
The Atlantic Radcliffe asked for comment on the news, to which the actor replied, “I will continue to support the rights of all LGBTQ people and have no further comment.”
Radcliffe also responded to critics who said he was ungrateful for defying Rowling, the novel’s author Harry Potter Books that inspired the film series in which he starred.
“Yeah, obviously Harry Potter Without her it wouldn’t have happened, so without that person probably nothing in my life would have happened the way it did. But that doesn’t mean you owe the things you really believe in to someone else your whole life,” he said.
