“Unfortunately, the sequence did not go as planned and several crew members were injured as a result. “We are still gathering facts about what happened and why, but first and foremost our thoughts are with those recovering,” an Amazon MGM Studios spokesperson told the Associated Press days after the April 20 incident 2024.

The spokesperson continued: “The well-being of the entire crew and cast is our top priority and we will continue to insist on the highest safety standards in the industry while filming. “All safety precautions were checked before filming and monitored during filming.”

The incident occurred outside of Atlanta, where The loading wagon has been filming since February 2024. The Associated Press reported that the collision occurred after a truck stalled and hit a car. A person who spoke to the broadcaster anonymously said that “it was a completely freak accident” and claimed that the scene filmed was “not even a complicated or dangerous stunt.”

Georgia State Police told the outlet that there was only one occupant in the SUV, the driver, while the truck was carrying seven crew members, five of whom were secured in the bed of the truck with straps attached to the walls.

Police added that the two vehicles were meant to collide for the stunt. However, upon contact, the truck’s brush guard became caught in the SUV’s wheel well.

Eight crew members were taken to the hospital after the crash, authorities confirmed to multiple sources. According to Georgia State Police, two people who were ejected from the truck suffered life-threatening injuries, while a third person was seriously injured.

A GoFundMe page set up for crew members Marvin Haven announced that he suffered “significant physical injuries” as a result of the accident, including “broken ribs, multiple fractures in the neck and back, a broken scapula, a punctured lung and a skull fracture that would require facial reconstructive surgery.”

The page, whose fundraising goal is $100,000, adds that Haven has worked as Dolly Grip for 26 years and is “devoted to his beautiful wife Melissa.”

Is the incident being investigated?

This was announced by the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE), which represents the crew members diversity in a statement that they “caused injury” in the accident.

The US Department of Labor is also investigating the incident. Eric Lucerosaid a Labor Department spokesman The New York Times that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration had “initiated an investigation.”
