Completing the Interior of the New Rolls-Royce Cullinan Requires 11 Miles of Thread and 2.2 Million Stitches

However, the interesting changes come inside the car with the introduction of a new interior that Rolls calls Duality. The The new fairing is a complicated design sewn into the seats of the new Cullinan. It’s said to be inspired by the company’s RR logo and requires an insane amount of handwork. According to a press release from Rolls-Royce:

This intricately embroidered textile was developed over more than a year in collaboration with a master weaver who now works full-time at Rolls-Royce to oversee this complex process, which takes place at Rolls-Royce’s home in Goodwood. A full Duality Twill interior can handle up to 2.2 million stitches and 11 miles of thread and is the result of 20 hours of construction time. To ensure a consistent pattern, each piece is made individually before being cut with a specially designed laser that seals the edge of the material and prevents individual threads from coming loose.

Eleven miles of thread over 2.2 million stitches! I’m not 100% sure how many seams go into the interior of a normal car, but that sounds like a lot.

To further enhance the allure of the new interior, Rolls has introduced a new surface called “Placed Perforation”. Craftsmen create intricate details in the fabric of the seats by making tiny incisions in the material. To show what this decoration can look like, the Cullinan Series II will be available with a pattern inspired by the clouds above the Rolls-Royce house at Goodwood in the United Kingdom. The pattern includes up to 107,000 perforations on the front and rear seats, each individually inspected to ensure consistency.
