French automaker Citroën is gearing up to launch its unique Basalt coupe SUV in India. The model’s market launch is scheduled for the second half of the year. Therefore, the company is testing the vehicle on Indian roads before its official launch. Recently, a new, completely naked test model of the Citroën Basalt was spotted testing on public roads. This particular Mule appeared to be the mid-size variant of this distinct coupe SUV.

The video, which shows the Citroën Basalt coupe SUV parked on the side of the road, comes courtesy of Instagram’s 1Dgasm. It begins with the cameraman slowly moving towards the SUV. The video then shows the complete side profile and rear of the upcoming Basalt coupe SUV.

2024 Citroën Basalt Coupé: Exterior

From the video of this recently spotted test car, we can see that it will get a very similar front design to the C3 Aircross. The grille looks the same with the integrated Citroën logo and two horizontal chrome lines.

The front bumper and air baffles also look the same as on the C3 Aircross. As mentioned above, this test model is the mid-range variant of the Basalt coupe. This may be because the front fascia doesn’t get the chrome accents as featured globally.

The silver front skid plate is also missing. What is similar is the presence of LED daytime running lights and halogen headlights. Apart from these changes, the most important ones have been noted in the page profile. It is observed that the mid-range variant will come with steel rims and covers instead of alloy wheels.

The rear also has some changes. The most noticeable of these is the lack of a silver skid plate. This underrun protection, which can be seen on the model presented worldwide, gives the Basalt a significantly more high-quality appearance at the rear.

The panels on this test mule were finished in matte black. The examples shown with the model presented worldwide were painted in high-gloss black. The rest of the design appeared to be the same with the wraparound LED taillights. The Basalt will get flap-style door handles like the C3 Aircross and C3 hatchback.

Inner

The video does not show the interior of this mid-range variant of the Basalt. However, we can see that the door pads were covered with a camouflage pattern. What we do know is that the top variant of the Basalt coupe will come with a similar layout to the C3 Aircross.

Most likely, the company could offer more premium features. The list of these features could include cruise control, keyless entry, and push-button start. Unfortunately, the brand has not revealed the exact list of features.

Drivetrain

As for the powertrain options of the Citroën Basalt coupe, it will most likely be powered by the same 1.2-liter 3-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine. This is the same engine that powers the Citroën C3 Aircross.

This engine produces 110 hp and 205 Nm of maximum torque. It could be offered with both a manual transmission and a torque converter automatic transmission. An electric version of the Basalt is expected to go on sale six months after the launch of the ICE Basalt, around February 2025.
