- Nothing introduces Nothing OS 2.5.5 and OS 2.5.5.a on Phone 1 and Phone 2a respectively.
- Both bring ChatGPT integration to the devices that require Ear and Ear products to take advantage of new gestures.
- The integration also brings new ChatGPT widgets for the home screen.
- Included with these new firmware versions are several new features, improvements and bug fixes.
Nothing released a new update for the Phone 2 last week that brings ChatGPT integration to the device. This week, the company’s other two phones received the same update with Nothing OS 2.5.5.
The integration on Phone 1 and Phone 2a is similar to what we saw on Phone 2. Users still need to install ChatGPT from the Google Play Store. Then, Phone 1 and 2a users will need to go to the Nothing X app to find the new gesture option to start a voice conversation with ChatGPT. The feature currently works with the recently launched Nothing Ear and Ear (a).
In the accompanying community post, Nothing points out that the company’s previous audio products would also soon integrate the functionality.
Additionally, new ChatGPT widgets can be added to the home screen to make the AI assistant easier to access. Additionally, a new button is added to the screenshot and clipboard popup that allows users to paste content to start a conversation directly in ChatGPT.
Apart from the ChatGPT integration, the Nothing OS 2.5.5 The Phone 1 update is significant as it brings several new features, improvements and general fixes. The features include a new option to apply the Nothing icon pack only to the home screen “to improve accessibility in the app drawer.”
Additionally, users can press and hold app icons while scrolling through pages on the home screen if they want to rearrange the icons. Phone 1 users can also allow Quick Settings to appear on the lock screen. Additionally, you can customize the icons in the status bar through the display settings.
The company is also adding a RAM booster feature, although our Jerry Hildenbrand doesn’t recommend using this feature.
The other improvements with the Nothing OS 2.5.5 The update on the Phone 1 includes the integration of an AI-powered auto-brightness algorithm. As part of improving accessibility, the Quick Settings tiles have also been rearranged and the Bluetooth and volume settings have also been optimized for a smoother experience.
The other general fixes according to the changelog on the Phone 1 include:
- Fixed an issue where the Wi-Fi connection was automatically disconnected.
- Fixed an issue that resulted in the earbuds volume not syncing with the phone volume.
- Fixed an issue where the audio would not switch to a connected watch during a call if an earbud was also connected.
- Fixed an issue where screenshots would not display the frame or allow access to the editor.
- Fixed a rare issue resulting in a lack of vibration feedback when swiping sideways to return to the screen.
The Phone 2a, on the other hand, receives an incremental value Nothing OS 2.5.5.a Build that follows the OS 2.5.5 update that rolled out last week.
In addition to the ChatGPT integration mentioned above, the latest update brings improvements to the camera, including color consistency for the primary wide-angle camera and portrait brightness in HDR scenes based on the user’s skin tones.
An issue with unusual noise in Portrait mode has been fixed and the Camera app launch performance also shows improvements as Nothing says CPU scheduling strategies have been adjusted.
Other notable changes with the update to Phone 2a include optimizations to the visual display of battery level in the home screen battery widget. There’s an advanced power saving mode that keeps vibrations active for calls and notifications. The AI-powered algorithm for automatic brightness can also be found on the Phone 2a.
