- CATL, the world’s largest electric vehicle battery supplier, has unveiled its new Shenxing Plus battery with a promised range of more than 621 miles (1,000 km) in the Chinese test cycle.
- The battery achieves this range due to its high energy density (205 Wh/kg) and has ultra-fast charging capabilities.
- The battery giant is also working on a new fast charging network in China and aims to become the largest super fast charging service in the country.
Many compelling new electric vehicles were unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show, but CATL, the world’s largest electric vehicle battery supplier, also used the event to unveil its advanced new Shenxing Plus electric vehicle battery.

The company’s latest battery uses advanced lithium iron phosphate with a proprietary 3D honeycomb material added to the anode, increasing energy density. The package also includes new granule grading technology that places each nanometer particle in the optimal position to improve density. The Shenxing Plus battery also has a one-piece housing.

CATL says its new battery pack has an energy density of 205 Wh/kg, giving it a range of over 621 miles (1,000 km) on the Chinese test cycle. Not only is the energy density and range of the battery impressive, but also the promise of ultra-fast charging. With just 10 minutes of charging, the battery can provide a range of 373 miles (600 km), which is approximately 0.62 miles (1 km) of range per second of charging time.

Achieving such loading speeds was no easy task. CATL uses a new conductive lithium-ion coating and has expanded the overcurrent range and the capacity of the connectors to dissipate high quantities during high-current charging.
As is often the case with exciting new battery announcements like these, CATL hasn’t given a timeline for when BEVs with its new Shenxing Plus battery will come to market.
In addition to launching this new battery in Beijing, CATL says it has begun building its new Shenxing Superfast Charging network, which will become the largest superfast charging service in China. In addition, a Supercharger charging vehicle owners club will be established in Shenxing, operating in over 600 service points, providing members with roadside assistance, battery inspection and maintenance and other services.
