Caterham Seven 485 Final Editions Say Goodbye to Europe

  • The Caterham 485 and 485 CSR are getting the Final Edition (FE) treatment on the Old Continent.
  • The most powerful EU-6 compliant Caterham Sevens will be discontinued due to EU-7 emissions regulations.
  • The FE models are offered in a limited edition of 85 units for Europe and 10 units for Japan.

Caterham introduced the Final Editions of the 485 and 485 CSR for the European market and announced that production of the models would end a full decade after their debut. The Final Editions are offered in limited editions and are characterized by unique details on the exterior and interior.

The 485 and 485 CSR are Caterham’s most powerful Euro 6 compliant Sevens, but the company is forced to phase them out due to stricter Euro 7 emissions regulations. Both are equipped with Ford Duratec’s naturally aspirated 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which produces 225 hp (168 kW / 228 hp) and 205 Nm (151 lb-ft) of torque. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox and a limited-slip differential, enabling a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint in 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 224 km/h (139 mph) .

The difference between the 485 FE and the 485 CSR FE is that the latter is available exclusively in the large chassis configuration, while it features a more sophisticated push-rod inboard front suspension, a fully independent rear suspension and larger diameter wheels. Note that the large case is 180 mm (7.1 in) longer, 230 mm (9.1 in) wider and 25 mm (1 in) taller compared to the standard option.

The Final Edition models are visually distinguished by the exclusive satin black stripes and emblems in combination with high-quality exterior tones. The 485 CSR rides on 15-inch Vulcan alloy wheels, while the 485 sits on smaller 13-inch Black Apollo alloy wheels. Inside we find Final Edition embroidery and numbered plaques. The cabin is upholstered in Sports Hex Black leather with Alcantara inserts, a carbon fiber dashboard and a fully carpeted floor.

Caterham Seven 485 Final Editions say goodbye to Europe

Olivier Jouanne, European Territory Manager for Caterham, said: “The unveiling of our Seven 485 Final Edition is a bittersweet moment for us and our customers. On the one hand, it marks the end of an era for one of our most famous European models. On the other hand, with only a limited number available, customers now have the opportunity to own the last, highest-revving, naturally aspirated Seven ever produced and drive a piece of Caterham history.”

Jouanne added that the discontinuation of the 485 will free up additional production and development capacity, allowing Caterham to focus on “expanding our European product offering”.

Limited availability includes 60 units of the 485 FE and 25 units of the 485 CSR FE for Europe, while there will be an additional 10 units of the 485 FE for Japan. Curiously, the production figures do not match the plaque reading ‘1 of 45’, suggesting that Caterham may have changed its mind at the last minute. The Final Edition models can already be ordered. Prices start at €67,495 ($72,452) before VAT and local taxes.
