Billie Eilish offered fans a taste of her new song “Lunch,” a steamy track with queer undertones and explicit lyrics.
Eilish will release her third studio album. Hit me hard and softon May 17th. While Eilish hosted a Do Labs party at Coachella on Saturday, April 13, he announced a handful of new songs and performed a few tracks like “Chihiro,” “L’Amour De Ma Vie” and “Lunch.” happy fans.
“Lunch” has since sent some fans into a tailspin on social media with its obvious LGBTQ+ themes, with lyrics like “I could eat this girl for lunch / Yeah, she’s dancing on my tongue / Tastes like she’s the one / And “I can never get enough / I could buy you so much stuff / It’s a desire, not a crush.”
Eilish opened up about her sexuality in a cover story diversity in November 2023 and criticized the December release for “outing” her on the red carpet.
“Thank you Variety for my award and for outing me on a red carpet at 11am instead of talking about anything else that matters,” Eilish wrote via Instagram at the time. “I like it when boys and girls leave me alone. Literally stream “Who cares?” “What was I made for?” 🥸.”
Eilish was asked about comments she made about her sexuality in a previous interview and said that coming out wasn’t a big gesture for her. “But I kind of thought, ‘Wasn’t that obvious?’ I didn’t know that people didn’t know,” she said. “I just don’t really believe in it. I’m just like, ‘Why can’t we just exist?’ I’ve been doing this for a long time and I just haven’t talked about it. Oops.”
The original interview was published on November 13, 2023, in which Eilish spoke openly about the conflict between her attraction to women and her insecurities about whether or not other women like her.
“I never really felt like I could relate well to girls,” she explained at the time. “I love them so much. I love them as people. I’m attracted to them as people. I’m really attracted to them.”
She added: “I have deep connections with the women in my life, the friends in my life, the family in my life. I am physically attracted to them. But I’m also so intimidated by them and their beauty and their presence.” She also spoke about her gender identity, admitting that she’s “never felt like a woman” or “desirable.”
“I never felt feminine. I have to convince myself that I’m a pretty girl. I identify as “she/her” and things like that, but I’ve never really felt like a girl.”
“Lunch” may be one of many songs that show fans a different side of Eilish. She told Apple Music on Friday, April 12, that she was filming a music video for “Lunch,” the second track from her upcoming album, which was produced by Bruder O’Connell testified.
“What Finneas and I said to a few people when we started playing it to people was that we made the album as if someone said, ‘I want you to make an album and no one will hear it .’ ‘…We made an album without really or much thought about it, like other people [would perceive it]”,” she said. “When I played it for people, I was a little bit like, ‘You shouldn’t have heard that.'”
