Bollywood star Ayushmann Khurrana, who is currently in New York to attend the prestigious TIME100 gala, watched the blockbuster Broadway show MJ: The Musical and loved it! MJ tells the story of Michael Jackson’s life and presents over 25 of Michael Jackson’s greatest hits. The show takes audiences behind the scenes as Michael prepares for the 1992 Dangerous World Tour, providing an in-depth look at his process.
Ayushmann Khurrana seeks musical role after seeing MJ: The Musical in New York: ‘I got creatively charged’
Ayushmann says, “I have read so much about MJ: The Musical that I had to watch it to witness the brilliance of this show unfold before my eyes. We all grew up listening to and enjoying Michael Jackson’s songs and music videos, and I wanted to understand the true story of what went on behind the scenes and in Michael Jackson’s process of touring and creating spectacles!”
He adds: “As an artist who constantly wants to evolve and get better, I am always inspired when I see Broadway shows. The incredible all-round talent that you can experience on stage is simply incomparable! Every time I saw a Broadway show I became creatively charged. MJ: The musical did the same thing for me too.”
Ayushmann further says, “I want to do a musical as a play. Our country has produced musical geniuses who have changed the musical landscape in India. I would love to play one of those shining stars who have entertained us with their music. Now I’m even more motivated to find a script that I want to commit to and give audiences something unique and new to watch on the big screen!”
Ayushmann’s influence and commitment to meaningful entertainment is recognized on the world stage, having been recognized as a recipient of the TIME100 Most Influential List in 2020 and the TIME Impact Award last year. His commitment to the world of art was evident when he managed to find time to see a Broadway show during his brief two-day stay in the city.
