Anupam Kher Disagrees with Ratna Pathak Shah’s Criticism of Acting Institutes: Bollywood News – Bollywood Hungama

Actor Anupam Kher recently responded to his colleague Ratna Pathak Shah’s comments on acting institutes in India where she termed them as “businesses”. While acknowledging Ratna Pathak Shah’s right to expression, Kher expressed curiosity about whether she would extend this criticism to reputed institutions like the National School of Drama (NSD).

During an interaction with Pinkvilla, Anupam, who also runs his own acting school, spoke about Ratna’s comment and said he didn’t feel the need to justify anything to her.

When asked about Ratna’s comment, Anupam said, “I don’t have to react. It’s their point of view. I also watched an interview with Naseer (Naseeruddin Shah). He also said that…” [I was watching an interview of Naseeruddin Shah, he was also saying that…]. He further asked, “I think both of them are from the National School of Drama. Will they call the National School of Drama a shop?”

Anupam wondered if the remark was made out of bitterness, “So sometimes a man speaks a lot out of bitterness. Sometimes a man also speaks a lot in philosophy. Sometimes you talk a lot out of bitterness, so no one can say anything.” ” [Sometimes people say something out of bitterness. Sometimes they say it philosophically. Sometimes you also say something so that it can become a question]” said Anupam and added: “But it is not important for me to justify myself in any way. What they think, they think. It’s a business. Quite ok.”

Despite conflicts of opinion. Anupam claimed that there was no animosity between them. “I look for the good in people. Even the worst person will have a good side. I remember when I was going for a drive in my first car, Naseer saw me and showed so much warmth,” he recalls.

The actor continued, “He said, ‘Wow, Anupam, you finally bought a car.'” I can’t forget the warmth he showed me. For me the gesture is important. He could say anything against me. But that’s his real reaction that I will always think about and remember.”

In an interview in 2022, Ratna, who has been an actress for almost five decades, spoke about her passion for acting and her displeasure over the lack of acting teachers in the country.

“You know the actors preparing, going from place to place, going into the wings, waiting to come in, the technical team moving around – I liked all that. That’s why I was always very happy backstage. But when I actually started acting myself, I realized that I don’t know how to do it at all. I mean, I was fine, but I was definitely not fine. To be honest, I didn’t know how to act. I did what I had seen my mother and other people do,” the actor told Pinkvilla, adding, “But that wasn’t good enough.” That’s one of the reasons why I joined NSD because I wanted to get training and learn how to be a better actor. Unfortunately, there were no drama teachers at the National School of Drama (NSD).”

Talking about the current situation, the actor said, “This is one of the great tragedies in India. We didn’t create trainers for actors. Almost anyone who runs a store right now, and I used the word store. It’s not an acting training school, it’s a business. These guys make money by scamming young people. I mean, the kinds of things that happen in these play stores are horrific, and kids pay huge amounts of money for them. But NSD wasn’t like that. So we trained in theater and I learned a lot, but I didn’t learn much about acting at all.”
