2025 Genesis GV70: Australian Timing Confirmed for Updated X3 Rival

The best-selling Genesis vehicle in Australia is getting a mid-life update.

The 2025 Genesis GV70 will arrive here in the second half of 2024Pricing and specifications will be announced closer to launch.

Genesis has so far only introduced the updated combustion engine GV70 and not its electrified GV70 brother, but has introduced its midsize SUV in both standard and sport trims.

The mid-life update brings minor cosmetic changes to the exterior but a more comprehensive overhaul to the interior – similar to the update for the larger GV80.

Mirroring its big brother, it features a 27-inch OLED display with an integrated digital instrument cluster and infotainment touchscreen.

Like the GV80, it gets a new touch-sensitive air conditioning downstairs, but the distinctive oval design element on the center console has been retained. Instead of the air conditioning, the ventilation nozzles and connections for the infotainment system are now also integrated.

Ambient lighting extends from the dashboard to the doors and there is a two-tone steering wheel with the updated Genesis badge.

Up front, there’s a redesigned grille and headlights with Micro Lens Array (MLA) technology, while a redesigned front bumper with a skid plate and wider air ducts creates a more rugged, SUV-like appearance.

Genesis has responded to a criticism of the GV70 by moving the indicators up from the bumper and integrating them into the taillights, making them much more visible than before.

The rear spoiler also includes a module for the GV70’s rearview camera and digital rearview mirror, which Genesis says gives the rear a sleeker look than before.

There are new 19-inch alloy wheels, while the Sport rides on 21-inch alloy wheels.

The sports package has enlarged air inlets at the front as well as a diffuser and exhaust tips in dark chrome at the rear. Inside, there’s also a unique “D-Cut” steering wheel and orange accents.

Genesis hasn’t detailed any changes to the GV70’s powertrain lineup.

For 2024, the 2.2-litre turbodiesel four-cylinder engine was phased out in Australia, leaving two petrol engines.

There’s a turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder with 224kW of power and 422Nm of torque, available with either rear- or all-wheel drive, and a 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 making 279kW and 530Nm and is only available with all-wheel drive.

The related Electrified GV70 features a dual-motor electric four-wheel drive system.

The GV70 was launched in December 2020 and will go on sale in Australia in 2021.

More than 200,000 units were sold worldwide and it quickly became the brand’s best-selling vehicle locally.

Last year Genesis sold 1190 units in Australia. The GV80 was a distant second with 403 units. That means the GV70 outsold every other Genesis model combined.
