2025 Genesis Electrified G80: Refreshed EV Sedan with Hot Magma Model Revealed

genesis hasn’t just peeled back the covers of a refreshed version of it Electrified G80 sedan, but also a powerful Magma version.

The Genesis G80 EV Magma concept was unveiled at the Beijing Motor Show this week alongside its tamer sibling CarExpert understands that this is due at the beginning of 2025.

It follows the recent unveiling of the G80 Magma Concept, a tuned version of the brand’s BMW 5 Series rival that will only be offered in the Middle East.

It is unclear in how many markets the production version of this new electric version will be offered.

Genesis hasn’t revealed technical specifications, so it’s unclear whether there have been any changes to its 272kW/700Nm dual-motor all-wheel-drive electric powertrain.

However, the company has confirmed that it has a “wider, track-tuned suspension” to improve roadholding and cornering performance, and has larger brakes.

It rides on lightweight 21-inch wheels with staggered tire widths that sit under wider fenders, and Genesis has also lowered the ride height.

Cosmetic changes include a redesigned front grille, rear diffuser and ducktail spoiler for optimized airflow, as well as a new rear bumper for a “more confident road presence” that features an integrated fog lamp that is “reminiscent of legendary racing cars.”

Inside, there’s Alcantara and quilted leather upholstery, as well as carbon fiber inserts with blue braid.

“The launch of the Genesis Magma in China marks our expansion into a new dimension of driving experience,” said SangYup Lee, head of Genesis Global Design.

“The G80 EV Magma Concept is a stunning expression of both our design and engineering capabilities and our commitment to meeting the ever-evolving needs of Chinese consumers in search of ultimate performance, represented by the beautiful, China-only Acme Blue.”

Speaking of blue, the refreshed Electrified G80 was also unveiled in Beijing with a new color aimed at Chinese buyers: Vision Blue, derived from the noble blue color of Chinese culture.

Like its combustion engine counterparts, the updated Electrified G80 gets a redesigned grille and headlights with Micro Lens Array technology, as well as a renewed front bumper.

The big news here, however, is the increase in size: the wheelbase has been extended by 130mm.

Luxury car brands often do this in this segment for the Chinese market, such as the Jaguar XF L and Audi A7 L, rather than forcing buyers to move up to the next segment.

It is unclear whether this extended length body will be offered outside of China.

According to Genesis, the additional length makes the Electrified G80 more similar to the brand’s BMW 7 Series competing sedan G90.

The 19-inch dish-style wheels also echo those of the G90, while there is additional chrome trim.

In the interior there are adjustable rear seats with leg rests, memory function and massage function. The rear doors have quilted interior trim and an easy-close function.

There is a charging port cover on the outside that opens and closes electronically.

Genesis says noise, vibration and harshness have been further reduced, while the Electrified G80 benefits from changes made to the refreshed petrol-powered G80.

These include a 27-inch OLED display with an integrated digital instrument cluster and infotainment touchscreen as well as a Bang & Olufsen sound system with 17 speakers.

The Electrified G80 is currently one of three electric Genesis models and one of two – the Electrified GV70 is the other – based on an internal combustion engine vehicle platform.

Genesis sold just 11 Electrified G80s in Australia last year, compared to 44 BMW i5s and 437 Mercedes-Benz EQEs.

Only limited images are available of the Electrified G80 and its Magma version. We will update this article as more become available.
