Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni has won the hearts of fans with his batting, his wicketkeeping, his captaincy and now with his “honesty”. The Indian cricket legend had a memorable outing against the Punjab Kings on Sunday. The 40-year-old wicketkeeper shows absolutely no signs of slowing down at any moment. Dhoni played his 350th T20 game and gave a Jonty Rhodes-like run-out as he flew on the stumps to fire Bhanuka Rajapaksa.
A mix-up between Rajapaksa and Shikhar Dhawan led to the departure of the former, and Dhoni was across the internet for his herculean campaign. A few minutes later, his name circulated for a completely different reason. It’s no secret that Dhoni has been one of the most beloved players, and the former Chennai Super Kings skipper won praise for signaling to the referee that his catch was not clean.

It was in the eighth over of the match when Dwaine Pretorius delivered a long ball down the leg side to Liam Livingstone. The English butcher looked down at it after a fine leg, but got a thick outside and Dhoni, who shrugged and made a dive of full length, grabbed it with both hands. However, the legendary wicketkeeper was unsure of his own efforts and before the referee could make a decision, he urged the square referee to refer it to the top.
The video replay showed that while Dhoni was grabbing the ball in the air, but because it was sitting in the fingertips of the gloves, it hit the ground after the CSK goalkeeper completed the dive. Livingstone, who was then on his way to his half-century, received a rescue.
Even though Dhoni failed to complete the dismissal, he won the hearts of fans on Twitter and in the comments box when former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull was heard to greet the former CSK captain for his “honesty”.
Here’s how Twitter reacted …
Earlier in the match, Dhoni completed a superb run from Bhanuka Rajapaksa in the second over of the match. Dhoni, who is challenging age with his incredible athleticism and quick reflexes, rushed in to collect Chris Jordan’s throws and loosen the bails with an effort under the arm from a distance.
Dhoni played a milestone match against Punjab Kings on Sunday as it was his 350th match in T20 cricket. He became only the second Indian cricketer to join the elite list and 19th overall.
