Suspected drug dealer pushed e-bike into officer while trying to escape

A suspected drug dealer pushed a bicycle into a police officer as he tried to escape.

The 24-year-old man escaped on an electric off-road bike after being stopped at Operation Guardian patrols in central Nottingham.

After being arrested in Woolpack Lane, the suspect tried to drive away but was cut off by officers in a nearby alley.

He pushed the bike into a police officer but did not get away.

When he was searched, it turned out that he was in possession of class A drugs and cannabis and was subsequently arrested.

Officials then searched his address and found more drugs, such as knives, a knuckle dust, handbags and money in his bedroom.

He was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A and B drugs, assaulting a police officer and possession of offensive weapons.

He was released on parole while the investigation continues.

Operation Guardian is now well established in the city center and has been very successful in tackling drugs and reducing violence that is often associated with drug use and dealing in the nightly economy.

It involves a team of officials patrolling the streets of the city, assisted by a passive drug dog, and carrying out stop and search activities, as well as dealing with people enjoying a night out.

Officials occupied the center on Friday last week (January 28) and conducted 19 stops and searches.

Sergeant Graham Whitt, who led the operation, said: “Our activity on Friday night was positively received by members of the public with whom we were engaged and who were happy that we were taking positive actions to keep them safe.

“Weapons and the production and supply of illegal drugs are destroying our communities and we will continue to take action against anyone involved in such crime.”
