Yuzvendra Chahal Opens up About His Selection in the Indian Squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup

On April 30th the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed the Indian team’s squad for the upcoming season T20 World Cup 2024. This highly anticipated tournament begins on June 2nd and is co-hosted by the USA and the West Indies.

The most notable selection in the Indian squad was Yuzvendra Chahal. Chahal showed outstanding performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, claimed 13 wickets in 10 matches. His remarkable form during this period secured him a place in the team for the prestigious event.

Yuzvendra Chahal expresses his happiness on being included in India’s squad

Before the game of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) against Rajasthan Royals (RR), Chahal, who recently made his name in history as the first bowler to reach 200 wickets in the IPL, joined in a discussion Murali Vijay on Star Sports. During their discussion, Vijay asked Chahal which of his recent achievements he would most like to be congratulated on first. To this, Chahal replied that being selected in the World Cup squad was his greatest pride. He stressed that securing a place in the Indian lineup was his “biggest achievement” so far and stressed that every cricketer aspires to be included in the national selection after proving himself in domestic cricket.

“For the World Cup we are playing IPL, domestic cricket to get into the Indian team and that is my biggest achievement.” Chahal said on Star Sports.

Notably, Chahal’s last appearance in a T20I match for India came during their tour of the West Indies and the USA in July 2023. During the West Indies tour, he took five wickets in five matches. Despite this remarkable performance, he was left out of the squad. Furthermore, he was missing from the T20I series against Afghanistan earlier this year. Reflecting on these events, Chahal remarked that during his absence from international cricket, he utilized his time productively by participating in domestic cricket matches.

“I think I played there (West Indies) last July but when I wasn’t in the Indian team. I have played domestic T20s and cricket continues.” explained the 33-year-old.
