Xbox Series X/S Storage Expansion Cards from WD and Seagate Are Currently Discounted

For better or worse, the only way to fully expand the storage of an Xbox Series X/S is to use a proprietary expansion card. Three and a half years after the consoles came into existence, there are only two official solutions left: the Seagate memory expansion card and the WD Black C50. It’s a limiting situation, but if you’re tired of deleting and reinstalling games to make room, versions of each card are currently at least a little cheaper than usual. The WD Black C50 1TB is available on Amazon for $125, while the Seagate 2TB storage expansion card is available on Amazon and Best Buy for just $230.

WD

This is just $5 below the best price we’ve seen for WD’s Xbox memory card.

$125 on Amazon

The former is $5 more than the lowest price we’ve ever seen, but it’s still $25 less than the card’s usual street price. We will note that Seagate’s 1TB model has this technically no longer necessary a few times for as low as $90, but these deals tended to sell out extremely quickly; As of this writing, this drive costs $140. The discount on the 2TB Seagate card now matches the best price we’ve found. This normally costs $250. Since WD doesn’t sell a 2TB card, it’s also the highest capacity option you can buy. Both discounts match the prices we saw on Black Friday last year.

To reiterate: In the context of the broader storage market, these are not great prices. Sony lets you upgrade the PlayStation 5 with a much wider selection of traditional M.2 SSDs, almost all of which are available for significantly less per gigabyte. For example, the top pick in our PS5 SSD buying guide is currently priced at $90 for 1TB or $158 for 2TB. This is despite the fact that consumer SSD prices have generally increased in recent months.

However, if you own a current Xbox, you don’t have much choice. You can use a standard external drive to do this save Series X/S games or run backwards compatible titles from Xbox One and older consoles, but the only way to play Current generation games are done via internal storage or one of these official cards. However, the cards themselves are just as fast as the internal SSD and setup is a breeze: you simply plug the small device into the Xbox’s expansion slot and you’re ready to go. Sticker shock is the only major downside, but these discounts should lighten the burden a bit.
