X Reacts as Unlikely Hero Joselu Leads Real Madrid to the Champions League Final

Real Madrid secured their place in this season’s Champions League final with an incredibly late comeback to beat Bayern Munich 2-1 on Wednesday night.

After a 2-2 draw at the Allianz Arena a week ago, neither team was in the driver’s seat heading into the second leg as a close first half failed to separate the teams as the defense was confident.

Alphonso Davies gave the visitors the lead, but two late substitutions for Real Madrid substitute Joselu sent the record European champions into the June final against Borussia Dortmund.

Ahead of the most important game of the season for both teams, there was a buzzing atmosphere at the Santiago Bernabeu as two European giants prepared to battle.

A date with Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League final was up for grabs, something the fans were aware of as they turned up the noise.

Despite the preparation, the first half wasn’t full of drama and tension, but there were still some breathtaking moments.

It was Real Madrid who came closest to scoring in a cagey first half and took control of the game. Vinicius Junior hit the post before Manuel Neuer made a fantastic save after Rodrygo’s subsequent attempt.

Despite the way the game was going, Bayern finally managed to take the lead. It was substitute Alphonso Davies, who came on for the injured Serge Gnabry on the left flank, and gave the visitors the lead.

The Canadian received a long ball from Harry Kane before cutting inside with his right foot and firing a shot past Andriy Lunin in front of the traveling Bayern fans.

But just as Bayern started dreaming of the Wembley bow, Madrid started doing Madrid things.

The hosts began to increase the pressure on Bayern’s goal and it finally paid off when Neuer inexplicably canceled out Vinicius Junior’s tame attempt while Joselu followed up with the easiest shot.

However, Madrid were not satisfied with the prospect of an extension and were not finished yet.

Just three minutes later they took a remarkable lead and it was that man Joselu – four goals in 27 appearances for Stoke City – who proved Madrid’s hero on the biggest stage.

The Spaniard fired home Antonio Rüdiger’s cross in the 91st minute and although the goal was initially ruled out for offside, the VAR revealed that Joselu was actually just offside as Los Blancos secured their place in the top-flight event at Wembley secured.
