X-Men ’97 Could Start a War with the Avengers

Like the original series, X Men ’97 has adapted various comic book storylines from the ’90s. So far, like this infernoThe Trial of Magneto And Grant Morrison and Frank Quietly New X-Men Runs were brought to life with varying amounts of time and success. The show has one much There are countless stories it can tell, and one of them could bring the team into conflict with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

Speak with Comic BookRoss Marquand (the professor Avengers vs. X-Men. Marquand spoke about Captain America’s appearance in the seventh episode, “Bright Eyes,” noting that it could be the first step toward adapting that storyline. “[Rogue] threw [his shield] on the side of a snow-capped mountain,” he said. “He won’t find that shield. It’s not like Mjolnir where you can just pull it back, it stays stuck in this thing. He’s going to be mad at Rogue for a while.”

Published in 2012 Avengers vs. X-Men The storyline – from writers and artists including Brian Michael Bendis, Jonathan Hickman, Matt Fraction, Adam Kubert and Olivier Coipel – was arguably the last major event before Marvel entered the MCU synergy phase. As the title suggests, the two teams engaged in a war over the returning Phoenix Force, which eventually split into five parts, allied with Colossus, Magik, Emma Frost, Namor, and Cyclops. Things ultimately end with the Phoenix Force restoring the then-dwindling mutant population. Cyclops as a mutant revolutionary, and Cap forms the Uncanny Avengers to mend fences with mutants.

What makes a possible adaptation interesting in the context? X Men ’97 is that it was intended that the X-Men perspective would be the focus and not the Avengers like in the comics. The show shows how characters like Rogue and Cyclops are fed up with how mutants are currently treated and how Cap’s “by-the-book” approach to violent acts against them is unacceptable. If anything, the version of the plot would have a title X-Men vs. Avengers, and make the late 90s/early 2000s version of the Avengers only stick their necks out for the mutants when they look good.

AvX is a big story, and it would probably be easier (and more entertaining) to adapt it into animation than into the films. Recent episodes have had no problem showing that characters like Scott and Magneto are right in their anger and actions, and one can imagine it would be an interesting way to explore those viewpoints (and those who fall on their side are) as they are influenced by the ever-corrupting power of the Phoenix Force.

X Men ’97 has already secured a second season and could have a third on the way. Let us know in the comments what you think coping would look like Avengers vs. X-Men, or whether it’s even worth doing.
